They are ultimately responsible to make their own decisions. If Trump was stupid and they followed they are also stupid. They waited way too long in hindsight. At the time 99% of the population thought this wouldn't go this far. Most of us outside the cities not cramped up into 10 sql studios are also not really worried.

It seems to only be a huge problem in these big cities that were managed so amazingly.

What you see in the cities will be coming to you soon enough. Good Luck!

The Trump administration has failed the American public from the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis.  He is betting that the $1200 checks will buy enough votes to get him re-elected.  I am still shocked that any American could believe anything he says.

While everything you say is true, he may still win re-election. That's just how bad the Democrat presumptive nominee is.

Not exactly:

"President Donald Trump has signed an order that will temporarily bar foreign nationals, other than immediate family of U.S. citizens and permanent residents, who have traveled in China within the last 14 days."  https://chicago.suntimes.com/2020/1/31/21117655/coronavirus-us-entry-china

This happened after the virus was identified in the US.  It was a good step, but other steps were needed and not taken.

He’s worried about losing his own money-that’s why it is necessary for a president to give up his businesses before taking oath.

That headline mirrors my exact thoughts recently.

This virus may well have passed its peak by the end of the year and those left can try to get back to normal. If Trump wins again then God help America and the world for we will truly be on the road to ruin. I fear we are now in the 1930s attitudinally wise and this is just the beginning of worse things to come. And the assembly of idiots will cheer the great pretenders into the portals of power oblivious to the bloody fate that awaits those that forget the lessons of history.

Andrew Cuomo and the American people  - find a way to for him to stand - the world needs a man like you in the world's greatest country. Cometh the hour cometh the man. Hope not Hate.

One of the big enablers of this was the Republican Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, who refused to put a stop to spring breakers partying on the beach.

DeSantis won a close election by advertising himself as a hard core Trump supporter, and has been kissing orange butt since then.

Spring break was seven weeks long?

This has an incubation time of 3-8 days? 14 max.

For those unfamiliar with "spring break", it is a one week break US universities take in March.  Most of the breaks are in early to mid-March, but some universities have it later.  The result is that popular beaches around the country are packed with young hard partying students sharing lots of close physical contact (and some body fluids) for the entire month of March.

Normally it's a wonderful thing.  But, like Mardi Gras, it should have been cancelled this year, with beach closures enforced by the police.  Florida Governor DeSantis still hasn't done that, he's left it to individual counties to decide.  Most of the counties decided they liked the money the spring break kids spend, and, since most of those kids would take any infections they picked up far away, well....

It could be possible that the defiant nature of most Americans could have lead to the rapid spread of the virus. Adding to that, much of what I see posted by Americans seems to imply that many don't take this situation seriously.

Hopefully, time has changed their thinking ... One of my best friends lives in NOLA.

No, real Americans take it seriously. We just do what we have to do in accord with what our Gov/Pres says. Americans dont crawl into holes and cry, or whine like chicken littles on the internet, or gloat over death tolls, they roll up their sleeves and they start fighting to win. And if you are a real rich redneck like say, Drew Brees, you cough up $5 million for your fellow Americans. Unlike the Hollywood Crowd.

Once this virus is done, its Chinas turn next.

You do know, or have you ignored, that the USA has the most ICU beds per 1000 in the world, save maybe one other country?

Acoording to worldometer, Mar 27 number still incoming yet new cases >17000, new deaths 312, total cases more than 100k

Definitely faster increasing than Italy and China, huge spike. Maybe due to insufficient test earlier.

God bless America and may next time elect a prez can actually make things happen, instead of stable genius and his lip service

18363 new cases and 398 new deaths now...

So sick of New York City sucking the life out of Washington DC. Why can't it ever care for itself?

Read just a few days ago people riding around subway, on busses. Feel the fear do it anyway. Now, Cuomo is whining like a little girl and Washington sent another bill.

New York has been irrelevant since the end of the 70s. Needs to support itself or go the way of Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Pittsburgh.

Louisiana, Mississippi what do you expect....

Small correction: it was in 1975 that Gerald Ford refused a request for some kind of bailout for NY (forget what).  The NY Post had a banner headline:  Ford to NY: GET LOST.

Trump has just announced he is considering enforced quarantine for areas of NYC, NY and Connecticut citing a phone conversation with the major of NY. The major has denied even discussing the matter with trump. Sounds like more misinformation from trump which has been his forte throughout his Presidency.

Trump has now reversed his opinion on NYC, NJ and Connecticut - LOL

Hopefully one of the sufferers will be the guy interviewed during Mardi Gras who said. "it only kills old people" "it is the same as getting the flu, 2 days later you are all right". "Nothing will stop me partying". The sad part is he was a college student.

It's going to get plenty worse. I saw on American news a few people   Interviewed who stated that some scripture or rather would save them. This is some kind of Looney Tunes and these people's faith is no match for a virus like this.

sadly, America has millions of people like that. Irrational thinkers, file bankruptcy while tithing to their local fraud ministers, etc

The performances of the various governors in CV impacted areas -- Cuomo in NY, Inslee in WA, Newsom in CA and now Bel Edwards in LA -- have been much praised models for leadership in times of crisis...

I'd add Governor DeWine of Ohio to this list

Unlike some others here who are blatantly one-sidedly blind, I would be quick to praise any politician of any party or political view when that person talks to his/her constituents the way Bel Edwards has been talking to Louisianans (?) in a time of crisis....  Calm, reassuring, empathetic, urging the need for collective action and shared responsibility.

At the same time, I'm equally quick to scorn other politicians who are self-obsessed, ignorant, erratic, dysfunctional, divisive, and who fail in their most basic obligation of doing everything within their power to protect the lives and health of their constituents.

I could care less about party. But I care greatly about performance and accomplishment.

Governor Bel Edwards graduated from West Point where he served on the Cadet Honor Committee. His class motto is "No Task Too Great."  He served in the US Army - 82d Airborne Division.  Trump went to a rich boy's private military high school, got diagnosed with "bone spurs" and never served.

Good leadership and a total absence of good leadership -- a very stark study in contrasts.

trump's cavalier attitude

"We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming from China. It’s going to be just fine. "

sunk Luisiana who held it's Mardi Gras celebrations and parades under these reasurances

with

More than 1 million people crammed into the city for the annual bacchanal, often squeezed shoulder-to-shoulder to watch parades or catch beaded necklaces tossed from balconies in the French Quarter.

In the meantime in Daytona beach (15 min from my hometown) 500,000 bikers descended for the huge anual party.(March 6-15)  By the second week coronavirus cases started to appear in Volusia and Flagler county,  and the county attempted to shut the thing down but by then it was too late.

It is over 14 days now (the incubation period is 14 days) and cases seem to be hold stagy at a couple of dozen as we hold our breath. It seems our saving grace is that locals avoid the event like the plague. I was particularly worried because my daughter was at her Mom's gift store business at the heart of daytona , but thank god, two weeks later she is doing fine.

New Orleans was not so lucky. this was a monument lack of leadership by trump who now wants to  put his signature  on the stimulus checks. (Normally are signed by a  Treasury Department official ) .
