So tell me .. what is the deal with the LOB in Double.. for the women's game this is accepted..but in men's doubles... <deleted>.. Is this the old man's version of going right at you.... Doubles is a game of the volley.. It is almost an unwritten rule not to lob..well almost.. I have seen, non-Thai players.. if you lob they too often as a strategy.. the net player.. Will take the smash and aim for "Fair Game" body parts..

Is the lob the equavilent to this strategy?

Of course, the Player cannot.. understand why the net player.. Took the opportunity to Tatoo the Wilson label on their chest.. Could this be cultural gamesmanship..

Anyway...Gave up the game.. But still have enjoyed watching a player being lobbed as strategy.. taking the ball and placing the Wilson label on the body of a LOBBER..

The lob in tennis is a very effective weapon when done well.

In top level singles you do not see it much because of the overhead skills of the players.

This means the lob has to be absolutely perfect or you lose the point.

Some singles players consider it a 'sissy' shot, but that is rather foolish.

Doubles is a different matter.

If I lob the net man with my service return, he will not go for it as he

must in singles. He will let his partner cover it.

So you see much more lobbing in dubs, especially at the club level.

Basic strategy in dubs is to get both players at the net.

To counter this, since passing two men is so difficult is to lob them

back to the baseline.

Notice that Canas beat Federer twice recently and he lobbed quite often.

But his lobs were perfectly placed and Fed could do nothing about it.

Do agree with the lob a shot selection.. but primarily it is defensive... The days of Harold Salomon are done.

Shot selection is always dependant on.. what is working that day and moment.. Drop shot strategy comes to mind when I see the typical Thai ..DUBs in the CLUBS.. OLD FARTs Division.. Both players back.. So it is heart attack gambit...time

Singles is a different game entirely.. my friend..as you well know.

It just gets rather old to play and observe a team just lob as a primary strategy in Doubles.. And anger gets the best of you.. which results in ramming the lob down their throats.. and this is not fun.
