Popular Post Old Croc
Have just learned all the Island's Amphoes and also the Land Department are closed for the month. Those of us requiring marriage documents for Immigration can go jump. I've made 3 trips to government offices in recent days for no result. They either closed yesterday, didn't consider my need important enough or were getting ready to shut down altogether. I know I should have taken care of these matters weeks ago, but never thought they would be closing down government! Immigration, of course, will continue to require reports, forms, fees and documents such as marriage certificates, Embassy letters and Doctors certificates. If not obtained the storm troopers in their black uniforms and fast smart car will swoop and levy overstay fines or toss clients in the hole! The story board creators and group photographers are salivating in anticipation of being among the few with plenty of work ahead of them. I've fed up with the sheer incompetence and lack of any common sense shown by many here. I'd seriously consider getting out of the place if I hadn't already been imprisoned! Popular Post schlog
Feel sorry for you Old Croc but would not call it incompetence this special "corona phuket way". It sure has a reason. Who will profit most and who is loosing every day more from his power by this phuket shut down? I guess have to think back to 2014 to find answers....
beechbum
Didnt you get a marriage cert with the stamp and numbers on it when you married?

For a Marriage extension, Immigration also require a Kor Ror 2 certificate (which essentially proves that you are still married i.e. not divorced). Normally obtained from the Amphur for a very small fee. I did write on a topic here a week or so ago that when my wife went to get one, she was told by the staff she was lucky to get one then as within a few days the Amphur would only be open for birth and death certificates. That is exactly what happened. 7

I'm trying to get married. The required official documents, and translations, took longer than expected and I missed the close down by a day. As an O-A leper I need to change from retirement to marriage extension. Age and medical difficulties preclude me from even dodgy insurance, and similar reasons prevented travel to change to O. Money is not a problem, I comfortably self insure. Yes, I should have done it earlier, however, there were other extenuating circumstances that slowed this, and I didn't anticipate a government shutdown. 5

Popular Post kingstonkid
Let's face it there has never been anything like this. I think a war would be easier to deal with. When Thai businesses were shut down we had to know that government would not be far behind. Are people going to be inconvenienced during this time YES. The only ting that we can do is try to keep calm and do the best we can. I understand the concerns I am caught in the catch 22 the only thing that we can do is the best we can. Remember the borders are closed so not one can be kicked out. LOL My sober suggestion is contact immigration and have your wife (not you) explain the situation and see what can be done. Immigration are getting their orders but unfortunately while some FARANG think we are the first people tht should be thought of there are more important things to think about than a person inconvenienced by a closure. Would you rather they keep it open and you go to the amphoe and get the virus? Then you would be complaining that they should have been closed 2 3

Do you understand the concept of sensible? 5 6
timewilltell
I hate the immigration rules with a passion but taking it out on the local immigration staff is just blinkered. Yes some if them can be difficult but none of then want to be there. People need to direct their contempt and disgust at the people who make the rules rather than the poor blighters having to impose them and probably recognising the idiocy of a lot of the rules. Thais are not great thinkers except to take advantage and the people at the top are there because of corruption more than brains. Direct your ire there better. 1

They refused to process my papers because they considered it unimportant. (I suspect my status as a foreigner had something to do with it) We were told to come back in a month. While I was waiting there, they announced they were closing the next day. Apparently one of their counter staff was suspected to have the virus. Their front door temperature taking, spray and wipe station seemed to be more busy with their staff rather than the few customers allowed in.

There’s this thing they have, it’s called DISCRETION, look it up. I could give you half a dozen examples of interactions I’ve had with IOs where they’ve used their discretion to show who’s the boss. I’m surprised with your wealth of knowledge you didn’t already know.
OneeyedJohn
Immigration rules are very fluid, they change as often as you and I change our underwear. Last year after the change with letters of income not being issued, I thought I would ask the guy in immigration who has been there some years about how the combination of income / money would work in the coming year. His initial reply astonished me, when he asked whether I had two bank accounts. I was stumped, and just sat down waiting for my 90 day. As I exited this same guy came over and muttered something about asking his boss. I gave up and left.

Immigration offices get their directives from BKK , but there is a certain level of ' tolerance ' in interpreting these directives ... for example : Some immigration offices want farangs to prove that they have insurance , ( OA ) others don't ... Some IO's are a pain in the rear , while others are quite nice , it depends on many factors I guess , ( have a good or bad day ...) But most of them seem to enjoy being in a position to give orders ... ( you need to bring this paper too , and have it signed by xxx ...) My thai wife has been living for 20 yrs in France , in all these years she had to go to renew her ' carte de sejour ' ( like a french identity card ) 4 times , every five years ...
