Hi all,

I have previously had a visa 30day extension from Chiang Mai Immigration. This expired on 6th April. Due to hearing about the large amount of people going to immigration to extend, I went on 2nd April. (for another 30 day exrension)

I arrived with all the required documents including the supporting letter from the British Embassy and the 1900 THB fee. The whole process was done outside after screening .

When I received my passport back, It was stamped UNDER CONSIDERATION. Even though I have read up about this on Thai Visa, the Date stamped to return was 24th April. This makes no sence to me. I asked the IO, and was told yes, yes come back then.

Is there anyone who knows why this is, the amount of days does not seem right to me. Cheers...

The special extension has to be approved at the division level of immigration is why it under consideration. The number of days for approval varies by the division the office is under.

You get the remainder of the 30 days when you go back.

cheers for that, will I need all new documents again or just my passport on return?

Thanks for help

Hi Lee,

I'm going for my second extension next week... Do you have a list of the documents required.

Many thanks!

I needed-

2 copy passport bio page

2 copy entry stamp and previous extension stamp

2 copy embassy letter

2 copy TM6 form

1 photo +1900thb

visa application form plus 2 other forms they will give at immigration and these need to be copied as well

sign every form and put your phone number on each.

There was no other forms required when i went. Take a hat as its very hot, and at some time you will be sat in the sun after playing musical chairs lol

For the remainder of the 30 days, you only need your passport. However, if you have all of the needed documents, you will probably be able to apply for a further extension on the same day. This would save one trip to Immigration.

OP, thanks for update to help others. You must be very relaxed guy. Attending twice for a 30 day "covid" extension is outrageous. Especially given the difficult conditions and health risks.

I never thought of that.

I note you stated "probably". Would make excellent sense if that was the case. Somehow I doubt it. Have not read one report of someone obtaining their second extension and being advised to bring another embassy letter and forms etc for what would be 3rd extension on report back date.

Good.  It does appear that it is differing office to office.  On another thread the writer went for second extension & got the full 30 days.  So, there you are.  Yet, on another thread is some dubious pronouncement ostensibly from some 'immigration' office, not signed, saying the reasons why reams of extraneous paperwork, fotos, and 'bring your owner' blah blah blah .. on and on.  I would recommend to any readers here to just ignore the questionable stuff, as just mentioned.  Further, why would immigration proffer a 'proposal' yet to be delineated and formalized, that would penalize one group of arrivals before March, and ostensibly give a clear road to those after. This alone should make anyone question the validity of the 'immigration' announcement as to ..  'why' they are doing this  .. and to be patient?  Nonsense, just use your heads .. ignore it .. and if you have the time before needed extension, just wait.  There have now been 2 seemingly easy, second extensions, quite believable. The first even showed a foto of what was posted that you needed, nothing extra except the embassy letter.

Im not sure im following you correctly. But, Is it even possible to apply for a 3rd extension? Meaning after completing the 2nd one (1st under consideration stamp plus the remaining days on second visit to IO). I havent heard of anyone trying yet. I think it will be only a 2nd extension for all of us. 30 days to arrange ourselves a trip to what is consideres our home.

As for me, my second extension expires on April 25. And this 2nd stamp after the under consideration one was the usual one ("offenders prosecuted"...)

It seems surrealistic coming back again with a new letter from embassy, and getting 30 days more.

30 day extensions based on embassy letters can be issued consecutively, they are not limited to only one.

So as long as your embassy keeps issuing letters you are able to stay. We will see if all immigration offices follow the official rules.

Exactly the same as me, only I didnt ask about extending again. I may just apply for another embassy letter and try it out.

Well prior to April 25 your only option is flight out? How will that work if flight unavailable. It has to be ongoing. Thinking you will need new embassy letter next time.

My guess will not be possible when attending imm for your last 10 or whatever days. Thinking back again for 3rd extension. Then again given under consideration stamp. All up 3 visits to imm per month. Just a guess.

Prior to April 25, my option is waiting here for a miracle, so I dont need to leave my gf and the new job. After 25, leaving is my only "legal" option so far. My ideal one would be going to Laos and get the Non B. Another acceptable one would be keep waiting here for things to improve with a 3rd extension (and maybe 4th, Im not so optimistic about covid-19).

Until now, I thought a 3rd extension was not possible. Simply because every day I get worse surprises about Thai authorities even when the covid-19 situation is worse too.

I will try to get a new embassy letter in case. Thanks Jack
