All topics on TV so far just address Tourist Visa.

I am on a NON-O, expires Oct 2020.

Returned from Bali end Jan, so my 90 days is up end Apr

Do I need the same letter from Consulate as tourist visa holders require to get my next 90 days ?

Can't leave the country - had a trip to PNH on sked for mid Apr but this is a no go, as is returning to LOS

Anyone very ran into this same problem, and what was the outcome ?  Am in CNX

Thanks

You can get a special 30 day extension of the 90 day entry from your visa. You will need a letter from your embassy to apply for it,

If married to or the parent of a Thai you can apply for a normal 60 day extension to visit them.

So ... I can't get the extension letter, and get 90 more days as the Non-O allows ?

Married - which is how I got the Non-O in the first place

So - embassy letter, get 60 days

No embassy letter needed for the regular 60-day extension to visit Thai wife.

Seems funny that the original visa allows 90 day stay, yet no way in the present situation to still get it.

But - I should not be surprised - they do "March to the Beat of a Different Drummer" don't they

Thanks

You can also apply for a 90-day Non Imm O - marriage Visa at your local IO.  This has to be done when you still have at least 15 (some IOs require 21) days left on your permission to stay.

So you have actually 3 options:

- apply for the 30-day emergency extension

- apply for the 60-day extension for reason of visiting your thai wife

- apply for the 90-day Non Imm O - marriage Visa

All three options available at your local IO, and each one having different requirements.

That is only possible if on a tourist visa or visa exempt entry. He cannot do it since he is already on a non-o visa.

Of course you are right and sorry for the mess-up.  I intended to mention the 1-year extension possibility, but it was a long day...

Below an updated version of the post.

= = =

You can also apply for a 1-year extension based on your current Non Imm O - marriage Visa at your local IO.

So you have actually 3 options:

- apply for the 30-day emergency extension

- apply for the 60-day extension for reason of visiting your thai wife

- apply for a 1-year extension based on your current Non Imm O - marriage Visa

All three options available at your local IO, and each one having different requirements.

Hmmm, I hadn't realised that. I'm currently on a 12 month Multi Non O based on marriage. So when all this is over and I'm ready to make the move to Thailand, I can't use my visa as the basis for an extension? I have to somehow cancel it and enter on a tourist visa or 30 day exempt entry?

You can apply for a one year extension of stay during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries from your non-o visa.

He confused things since he wrote his post incorrectly.

Sorry if the previous responses confused you.

But you can apply in Thailand at your local IO for the 1-year EXTENSION based on your present 1-year MultiEntry Non Imm O - marriage Visa.  What you cannot do is apply for a NEW 90-day Non Imm O - marriage Visa in-country when your present Non Imm O - marriage Visa is still valid.

My previous post #9 spells out the 3 extension-options you presently have.

Thanks for that Joe. Let's say I extended a 90 day stay, could I also apply during the extension?

Apply for what?

You can extend the 90 day permit to stay for 60 days to visit your wife or for one year with the required financial proof.

The one year extension can be applied for during the last 30 days of the 60 day extension as well.

A immigration office cannot do a new 90 day permit to stay from a visa. That can only be done when entering the country. There is no way for them to work around that. Immigration can only a issue extension of your 90 day permit to stay.

but he can get 60 days extension ?

A 60 day extension to visit Thai wife doesn't require financial proof.

It is not required.
