BEIJING (Reuters) - Mainland China reported on Wednesday 62 new confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, up from 32 a day earlier, the National Health Commission said, as the number of infections from people arriving from abroad surged.

Mainland China's imported cases stood at 1,042 as of Tuesday, up 59 from day earlier, according to the health authority.

That brings the total number of confirmed cases to 81,802 so far.

do they even have borders open right now?

Maybe they finally accepted the truth that Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau are not part of CCP China. Pesky furriners. Or maybe it's the Tibetians.

I’d like to know why after infecting the worlds greatest cities—Beijing records only a handful of new cases.  Have they developed their own vaccine ahead of the Wuhan release?

And does anyone believe their virus numbers?

If you watch the videos on the apps they use to "rank" and "track" their citizens, with green/yellow/red status, you can imagine that there is some extra degree of management realized. And despite the news reports making it sound like the country has "opened up" again, it is not at all back to "normal" there. Still a great deal of restricted movement. That said, anyone believing their numbers is likely to believe Thailand's numbers.

Car720 the truth of that observation has not escaped me. Hmm Malthusian principles to reduce the number of boomers. Yeah makes sense.

It is somewhat coincidental to see a disease that threatens the aged at a time when the world has a problem with an aging population.

It's not targeting the aged specifically. It kills those with underlying health problems, and millions of aged will not have such. It's just that the elderly obviously have more underlying health problems than younger people, and less likely to have the strength needed to combat the infection.

Not sure about all borders .. but you can still not fly into Beijing and other large towns from overseas (if you are non Chinese)

One very important word in the title. Reports. I wonder how many are not reported.

Even those with a limited intellect can see that the figures just do not make sense with the population of China.
