Taweesin says end of lockdown in sight – if people stay home

People cooperating with self-isolation measures has resulted in an absence of new coronavirus cases in many provinces over the past two weeks, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Thursday (April 16).

Nine provinces have remained free of Covid-19 throughout the outbreak. They are Kamphaeng Phet, Chai Nat, Trat, Nan, Bueng Kan, Phichit, Ranong, Sing Buri, and Ang Thong.

Meanwhile, 25 provinces have recorded no new cases in the past 14 days (April 2-15). These are Chiang Rai, Maha Sarakham, Saraburi, Phetchaburi, Mukdahan, Sukhothai, Phetchabun, Yasothon, Nong Bua, Phrae, Roi Et, Amnat Charoen, Mae Hong Son, Ratchaburi, Udon Thani, Kanchanaburi, Lopburi, Uttaradit, Chanthaburi, Lamphun, Uthai Thani, Nakhon Nayok, Sisaket, Buriram and Samut Songkhram.

However, the case count has been rising in Nonthaburi, while Bangkok followed by Phuket have recorded the highest number of Covid-19 patients in the country.

Thailand’s Covid-19 crisis appears to be under control, with the curve of new infections flattening out over the past week to around 30 cases per day. However, Taweesin cited Japan, where weeks of low numbers of new infections have been followed by a sudden uptick with three-digit daily increases in recent weeks. He emphasised that people in Thailand should stick to their current good practices. If they did so, the government would consider easing restrictions on daily life and businesses by allowing shops and malls to reopen, though limits would be placed on customer numbers while wearing of masks and social distancing measures would still be mandatory.

So, don't talk about it, do it.

In general, if you don't agree with what someone says, it's best to say Í don't agree' rather than try to insult them in whatever petty way you can manage. Don't talk about it, do it.

And that will explain the second wave which Thailand will probably have, starting soon. Thai psychology strikes again.

A cat cannot be a dog and a 3rd-world population cannot be a 1st-world population. And even 1st-world populations have been having problems, and I strongly suspect will likely have more.

What rock are you living under?  It remains to be seen how they're doing it (and it could be false), but to date Thailand has managed the crisis MUCH better than "1st-world populations."

In your opinion. Mine is not so easily assuaged but then my opinion is based on looking at the charts not some half-baked reverse discrimination.

I make the same comment to you as I made to the other guy. If you don't like someone's opinion why not say "I don't agree with your opinion" rather than desperately trying to invent new and exciting ways to insult people. I don't live under a rock, thanks very much, and I am entitled to an opinion. If you don't like it, then that's a bit of bad luck.

Have a nice day.

A couple of weeks ago it was unusual to see one person without a mask. Seems they must have got bored with the original panic.

Probably can't buy any, as the alleged 2 million per day manufacturing was all talk or got exported for profit ??

Well - lets see.

As a friend said to me today - thai's have very little contact with each other because of no kissing and hand shaking - which is what happens in the west. So that might explain why regionally the covid count is low.

It's very possible that thailand will get through it. but as with every area, until there's a vaccine, the potential for crisis is always just around the corner.

Bravo Bravo!! Well said. The touching thing is not there culture at all. But the giving space?! It takes me a bit every time I come over to get used to the in my space! So if they can get that under control and wash there hands on regular bases I think it could work here. But I’m awake now. So dream is over.

Heard that old chestnut before, from someone else ! (100% no less).

They'll roll out the Covid bogie-man whenever then have an urge to project power and make the pleb dance on the ends of their strings.
