The project is part of TAT’s efforts to mitigate the impacts of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis and accelerate recovery in the travel and tourism sector. The Amazing Thailand SHA certification is to prepare Thai tourism operators to be ready for the return of tourism post COVID-19. TAT is currently working on details of the Amazing Thailand SHA certification together with the Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Board of Trade of Thailand, Federation of Thai Spa and Wellness Association, Thai Retailers Association, Thai Hotels Association, Association of Domestic Travel, Thai Amusement and Leisure Park Association, Thai Restaurant Association, Thai Spa Association, Thai Boats Association, and Event Management Association. Works in the process include establishing the SHA criteria, introducing the committee, preparing the application and selection process, and planning marketing and publicity for the SHA-certified tourism establishments and services. The evaluation methods and methodology of assessment for tourism establishments and services to be certified with the Amazing Thailand SHA certification will cover five key areas. Tourism establishments and services must strictly follow the COVID-19 control guidelines by the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health. The safety of attractions and facilities with development plans or operation procedures that focus on ensuring tourist safety while maintaining local culture and promoting interaction between local communities and tourists. Hygiene and sanitation in tourism establishments and services; such as, homestays, lodges, souvenir shops and restaurants. Convenience, cleanliness, and safety of linkages between communities and attractions, as well as the safety and health standards of transportation, including private cars, public buses, and airlines. The confidence in tourism personnel in tourism establishments, including tourist safety and security protocol. The Amazing Thailand SHA project is a part of TAT’s realigned strategy amid the COVID-19 crisis, which also includes the plans to stimulate spending from domestic tourism. And ... just how much will this cost the private sector? Is this seriously a ruse to squeeze even more out of a failing economy. Pretty obvious something like this was in the offing when news of the new "tourism committee" broke. Senate tourism committee 7
Popular Post darksidedog
Wow! Where to begin? I certainly understand the desperation in trying to get things rolling again, but they are really up against it here. Promoting Thailand as safe when it has the most dangerous roads on the planet is tough. The initiatives being thrown in the air would be great if they were actually fully implemented. They would all require money of course, a significant amount of it, at a time when there is very little to go around. It would also require lots of diligent effort, a factor almost guaranteed to ensure failure. If Thailand decides to open its doors to all and sundry, we can expect to have more virus drama again shortly thereafter. I don't see an easy way out for TAT here to be honest. I believe they need to reconcile themselves with the fact that tourism is going to take a very long time to even begin to recover. There are huge improvements needed to generate confidence, none of which these committees are likely to solve. 12

The acronym pretty much describes what TAT just did to themselves. 2 1

Yadon Toploy
From experience Thais know very little about health and safety in general and don't have the skills nor discipline to implement safety measures effectively (road fatalities, construction accidents etc.) However, it appears they have been effective in their measures to combat COVID-19 so far. A step in the right direction.

thequietman
I suppose because the tourism industry has almost SHAT itself, TAT feel the need to keep themselves relevant.???? In order to keep their TAT jobs, they have come up with this SHAT idea. However, the writing is on the wall, and the PM should pull their funding and use it to really help the THai people. TAT has SHAT itself. ???? Edited April 21, 2020 by thequietman

Senate tourism committee Yeah just Amazing Government. Wasn't it just last week some generals were ordered to take control of the 2 BKK airports and the week or so before the military ordered to take full control to watch over the inbound Thai? The only thing this move seems to strengthen and cement is not tourism but the rank in the military or retired rank acting like a civilian government person. Do you smell a rat? EvetsKram
Bring in some legislation covering OH&S then bring in some foreigners competent in it to run things & teach the Thais, I know quite a few OHS high level people who'd love to come here, they have vastly different backgrounds, health, construction & industry, all which Thailand needs

BobbyL
Fantastic. Truly fantastic. Just imagine, someone in a meeting at the TAT HQ on Phetchaburi Road actually came up with this idea. I imagine all the minions fully agreed it was a sterling idea by such a highly esteemed part of the TAT. My bet is we hear absolutely nothing about this in a few months.
