The governor of Mae Hong Son announced today (April 21) that all five confirmed cases in the northern province have recovered and been discharged from hospital.

Suvapong Kitipatpiboon spoke after visiting the public auditorium in Muang district, which has been repurposed as a quarantine centre for at-risk returnees from Greater Bangkok and overseas.

Supachai Boonampan, a doctor in the province, said all five of its confirmed Covid-19 patients were hospitalised on March 24 but recovered and returned home on April 20.

Way to go, Mae Hong Son.

Congratulations. It's an important achievement. 5 cases and 100% success rate.

The PM will be paying a visit shortly, to shake hands and all that.

But will there be the correct social distancing?

This province connects with three 'Burmese' provinces so might be considered a potential high risk for coronavirus.

Population in 2019 was about 284,000 -compared to the five identified infections, the province is making health decisions based on a 0.002% observed infection rate.

That rate suggests the region is a low risk for coronavirus infection that belies Thailand's infection experience at other Myanmar border areas.

Without further population testing (2% of population?) and contact investigations of the confirmed five infected people, the government appears to be making a health decision based on faith and not on appropriate medical data.
