Got a tablet today, no USB ports just standard cheap Huawei unit. I was just wondering is it possible to connect a USB stick or in fact any USB item with a cable to the Micro USB charging port with the right cable? Or is this charging only?

 

I am sure there are better ways to transfer files these days but may have a need to connect a USB memory stick

If your tablet supports USB OTG (On The Go) then a simple adaptor will allow you to plug your USB memory into the micro-USB port.

 

A modern tab almost certainly will, even my ancient Note-3 works.

 

Madam got an adaptor free with her last phone (along with a half decent power bank and a selfie-stick).
