Who needs Hollywood blockbuster movies?

If you live in a quiet:cheesy: Issan village, you get all the excitement without movies.

Yesterday morning laughing at NCC1701As merc thread, lost the internet, damn, go outside my room to reboot internet.

Got outside... Holy s++t, saw a massive wall of flame at least 15 meters high and maybe 200 meters long heading straight towards our home.

Wife gone to check the school, me alone, sh+++Ing bricks, call wife , no answer, people in cars, pickups, motorbikes, running everywhere.

Policeman at the gate... Shouting farang, farang out out, gate wont open, powers gone, s++t, back into my bedroom to gate the key to change the gate to manual, in my hurry to get to the gate, dropped the bloody key, hell what a nightmare trying to pickup a key from my wheelchair.

Got the key, opened the gate policeman dragging me in my chair, yoot, yoot i am shouting, my dogs, my cows.

Just then my wife appears with another policeman, she could not get passed all the bloody rubber neckers blocking the road.

Get in the room now, important papers, computers, get them out, before the fire reaches here.

Policeman in the shed letting the cows out, i get my dogs.

Just then another fire truck arrives, reverses to behind the house next door, starts his jet hose going blasting the flames, wait, wait, i am shouting he is winning the battle.

Somebody mussed have been praying, the wind turned, started pushing the fire away, what a relief, our home is safe.

Only damage around was a couple of small sheds gone, nobody injured.

The man sitting on the back of that fire truck, a HERO, HOW HE SAT THERE IN THAT HEAT, UNBELIEVABLE.

Got my wife call 3BB, they sent a linesman out, he called us, cannot fix until tomorrow, need cable etc from Khonkaen, got internet back 30 minutes ago.

Fire almost out we were very happy at around 5 in the afternoon heavy rain, put it out completely, relief.

Behind our home going towards the temple there is an area of land maybe 60/70 rai, not been cultivated in over 10 years.

Yesterday 4 men arrived with brush cutters and started cutting down the 3 meter high reeds etc, appears they got fed up cutting it, so the stupid bar stewards set light to it, and nearly destroyed parts of our village... bloody idiots.

So i was shaken, not stirred yesterday, and still here, much to the annoyance of some.

You think i had bloody time to take photos? Bloody stupid thing to say, i was in danger of losing my life, my home.

  • Pictures or it never happened.

  • I cant think how an abled bodied person would have coped being presented with that situation alone, as we all know Colin is not and he handled things very well considering his situation.   W

The only other pic was a bit too much for a happy thread like this !!

Maybe he does though ???

Glad you survived.

I bet you wish you could speak Thai in a situation such as this. Don't the neighbours know your name, instead of shouting "farang out"?

I often tell people that learning Thai could save their lives.

Tosh............????

Look on the bright side - it will be another couple of years before there is enough grass to cause a major disaster again!!

Geez 70 rai of grass, that is a hell of a lot of burning grass!

Glad you are OK!

Glad you're all ok Colin, a fast moving grass fire is scary enough when you can run! And even then you may not be able to run fast enough!

Good on the brigade putting it out.

We've had two instances in the last 12 months or so of land clearances gone wrong. One just took out the power and internet, the other wiped out a row of homes and a restaurant, no time even to save the cars.

Punishment for the perps? A wai and a slap on the wrists.

Just another pathetic comment from you, what have my neighbours got to do with a policeman who does not know me got to do with my Thai speaking abilities?

You seriously need to get a life, instead of ridiculing my posts, you also need to improve your reading abilities.

Thanks mate, i can tell you i was scared, electric gate, power out, only me here, dropping the key was the worst bit, damn difficult picking up a key from my chair, but i managed it.

Animals safe, a few neighbours helped get the cows back in the shed, dogs no problem, they came to me when i called them, neither dog has ever been out the gate, and i didnt want them mixing with other dogs, but thankfully i didnt happen.
