Many comments by many members have delighted me, and I am saddened that I did not collect them all in a special place so I could go back and reread them. Some are a string of posts and ripostes that really entertained, others are truly common sense notes, others hilarious jibes.

For now, I add one of the latest that grabbed my attention, tweaked my interest and reminded me that many posters are so intelligent and scholarly.

Oh, a pity the photos are not included. One of Lao Po's posts in Artful Nudity.

Thanks, Lao Po. Beautiful works, especially the rose petals and the show going on there below. Have to ask about the lady in the top painting...um, she looks pretty ecstatic and I was wondering what the heck she has in her hand? Also like the playfulness of the two lasses in the bath, where the one is about to spray water at her friend.

Not a real traditionalist, but the quality of these works is exquisite, and they must have shocked polite society at the time for the content matter.

Yes, you're right; these paintings were quite shocking at the time.

As to the 1st painting of Alma Tadema:

August 1881 at: Gallery Georges Petit - Paris.

He painted only a few nudes but there are stories that he was commissioned by the Royal Court in England to paint 'pornographic' paintings which were never shown to the public. o, unfortunately I haven't seen them.... :D

The painting is called: "Tepidarium"and measures just 24,3 x 33 cms, so quite small.

The Lady holds a so called Bronze 'strigilis' (Latin) in her right hand, symbolizing a fallic symbol. Bronze 'Strigilisses" -skinscratchers- were found in great numbers in the remains of the public and Private-Baths of Pompeii/Italy. They were used by slaves to remove oil and dirt from the bodies of their masters.

Alma Tadema had a beautiful Bronze 'Strigilis' in his private collection and is now at the University of Birmingham.

The 2nd painting is called: A favourite Custom April 1909 at: Tate Gallery - London

The bath itself, called a 'Frigidarium' was found in the remains of Pompeii and was found in 1824. So, these baths really excisted ! However he painted the environment of the baths more luxury than they actually were.

The painting is absolutely marvellous and if seen in reality everybody is amazed how the bodies were painted inside the water and it's movement.

The Roses of Heliogabalus 1888 - Private Collector 132,1 x 213,9 cms (!) and is a very large painting.

This is a horror story and true.

The Roman Emperor, "Heliogabalus" or "Elagabalus" were his more common known names but in history we know him as, "Marcus Aurelius Antoninus", ruled just 4 years and was murdered by the Pretorian guard members. No wonder because he was a sadistic young man.

He is the 'chap' lying on his belly at the top of the painting.

He used to invite guests at his palace and found it funny to have his guests killed.... :D

HOW? The 'ceiling' of the place were he held his parties were made of heavy cloths, completely filled with Rose petals; millions of them. At the height of the party he ordered his slaves to suddenly lower the 'ceiling' and the guests were literally burried in Rose Petals...sufficated....and died.

The 'guest' on the right lower side of the painting (with beard) is supposedly Alma Tadema himself.. :o

But it didn't have Slade in it.

Best posts always do !!!

did anybody read all that "stuff"...?

I think it should be banned from bedlam, frankly, along with any other posts that are educational/historical/allegorical/mythological/mythical/fantastical/happybirthdaykhall/jethassmellysnakesforhairical/suiginglimpical/crowboyscaredofall/farangsayhasbadbreathical/tiggyisinfactapervertedwomaniserical/icannotkeepdoingthisical/itsgonnastrechthepageical

I wanted to quote all of my posts in here but there are just too many of them.

IS RARO - IS GOOD

I am so glad this thread has lived up to my (and Jet's, I'm sure) Expectations!

Who streched this darn page! :o

One of my favorite posts was in a thread about generalisations.

Well, the thread is in General, I think, and it's about "how you view Farang in Thailand"

which inevitably became a discussion on generalisations.

the post in questions goes like this:

Ok. Here's a couple of satang.

Have a read of this, then answer my question below. Bear with me, I'm feeling a wee bit philosophical.

There are drug using people. There are sober people.

There are people that used to do drugs but are now sober. There people who have been sober, who now are drunks.

There are fat people. There are thin people.

There are people who once were fat, but now are slim. There are people who once were thin, but now are fat.

There are kind people. There are unkind people.

There are people who once were kind, but now are jaded. There are people who once were jaded, but now are kind.

There are people who are good most of the time. There are people who are more often not so good.

There are wealthy people. There are poor people.

there are people who once were.... you get the drift here...

There are people with a lot of spirituality in them. There are people with little spirituality in them.

etc... etc...

NOW. My question is this: What Nationality/country am i referring to?

Post 55, i think.

One that made me howl was the last posts in the "Another Farang marriage fails" thread on General the other day. Endure was threatening to close it, because of BG discussions & made a post stating that the next post would close the thread and earn the poster a 10 day holiday. Immediately after that was a post from mikethevigoman. I'm sure endure would have ignored that one, as it was posted just seconds after his. But Mr vigoman had to post another saying "Smee, innit" to which endure replied something like "since you're volunteering" or "if you insist". I nearly wet myself. Classic! :o

:o i saw that as it was happening! F-kin hilarious! guy was totally beggin for his holiday

I It is largely a playgroundd mentality we've adopted here. I mean, the posters in question can not even defend themselves.

I think this thread is best kept CLOSED. How relevant is it to anything?????

Mikethevigoman becomes one of my favourite nutters...not yet a true Donz, but on the best way. First time I checked his profile, there were six posts...but only three of them visible. That's what I call quality!

Whio stretched the damned page that wide???!!

KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYO!!!

Nice to see your back Jet. :o

Want me to post some more stuff about slade just so we can wind up JG? I have an interview with Noddy from an English Guitar Mag that I could transcribe and post up here.

Well if you must............................

Well if you must............................

I like Slade - in many ways they were a crap band with average musical skills and their songs were really naff but they were/are an up front rock and roll. Never took themselves seriously and seemed to think the biggest joke was that they were so popular.

There are a lot of bands out there that deserve a lot less and think they are much better than Slade. The plastic coated, written by Stock, Aitken, and Waterhouse brigade. The manufactured pop crap that is pumped out of the music industry. The shown on TV and slagged of by a bunch of failed talent wannabes and never weres as Pop Stars have made millions for people with a modicum of talent but "have the look"

Bands like Slade are pub rock, they make music fun and real

Back on topic then...

fun post by a member in the "thailand prepares racism report" thread.

"snipped for brevity"

I dated a few black girls in my day. Dated an American Indian, dated an Indian, dated Vietnamese, Half Korean, Tiawanese, Japanese.... heck I enjoyed being an ambassador.

:o :cheesy

Ahhhh. I thought he was turfed for calling me a b*, but he did apologise personally and appears extremely remorseful for all of his transgressions.

Cawboy, I found my weapon of choice for bagging you: my 50-year-old catapult (slingshot), which I now use for felling fruit from high tree branches, feeding my guppies and waging marshmallow battles against the neighbour's shitzu. I never miss.
