Thailand reports no new coronavirus cases, no additional deaths

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand on Saturday reported no new coronavirus cases or deaths as the country begins to reopen businesses and ease restrictions.

 

"Today there are two zeros ... thank you all Thais who have given their cooperation," a spokesman for the government's Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration, Taweesin Wisanuyothin, said.

 

This is the second day since March 9 that the country has reported no new daily cases.

 

Thailand on Sunday will allow malls and department stores to re-open. It will also shorten a nighttime curfew by one hour, to 2300 to 0400, from 2200 to 0400.

 

Thailand has reported a total of 3,025 cases of the coronavirus and 56 fatalities.

Great news, and ample justification for cautiously relaxing restrictions. The irresponsible actions of those in the USA will without doubt doubt cause a new wave there. The selfish actions of those in Wisconsin and other states is beyond belief. Thailand should impose severe restrictions on all travellers from the USA until they get their house in order.

Weird.   The official stats on the Department of disease control show 7 new cases on 15th May. 

Google shows 7 new cases on the 15th May.

Bangkok Post shows 7 new cases on 15th May. 

Reporting the new stats for Saturday 16th when there are still 18 hours to go seems a bit premature.  Then again if you don't test anyone you won't have any new cases yipee!

That is not cases on 15th may. It's the day they are reported. ie from the 14th.

So cases reported today are from yesterday.

Yes amazing 70 million population not one new case !!!!! Such a true reflection of Covid 19 Thailand fantasy!

A news item above kind of hinted that you do actually need to test people!

Yes part of the point is you can't look at the stats from one day and claim it's all over. 

There should be 14 days with zero new cases before restrictions are relaxed.

What is the restrictions on pools, gym's no cycling or treadmill? Why are they a risk? The only risk with those is losing the 12Kg I gained without them since this sham began.

Standing in a line waiting to have temperature taken and not spaced out very well, pointless. I got turned away once because I was over 37c, but guess what it's hot and when I sat down for 5 minutes it was back to normal.

 

When there was lots of tourists the figures stayed static for weeks and when the tourists stopped coming the figures went up and now it's very low when they want the Chinese tourists back again. With -9.8 drop in GDP in the first quarter I doubt the hordes of Chinese tourists will be back for a long time, the rich Chinese maybe.

The latest figures from the World Health Organization Country Office for Thailand are from May 14th. On that day their figures indicate there were 3,117 people tested (Thailand reports by people rather than by sample). According to the same WHO source, since the beginning of May Thailand has tested an average of around 3,000 people per day.
