I saw some papers on table while entering Tesco. Of course I ignored it. But later I was told people are signing their names/telephones numbers upon entering Tesco's. And then sign out upon leaving. It's like 2 days old change.

 

What is it all about?

That's for contact tracing in case someone is later found to test positive for Covid-19 and was in the store at the same time as you.  It's for your own safety, not something you should ignore.

The sheets are there for those who, for various reasons have not registered for the ThaiChana platform. We falangs have the reasonable excuse that it's not available in English yet, but it will be coming soon.

Central Khon Kaen has the same or if you have a Smart phone you can download the funny box with squiggles to register your visit, this was at restaurants and shops.

I don't have a Smart phone so write my name and contact number.

Use local train to KK and have to fill in questionnaire at departing station and another for the return journey, although this is getting more lax now compared to 2 weeks ago.

I went in my local lotas to grab some red onions for missus northsouth. 

She almost finished cooking dinner and realised she didn't have any, so it was a bit of a red onion emergency. 

I also ignored the que to sign the book, and though I understand the reasoning behind it, I don't intend to pick up a pen that 100 strangers have just been handling. 

Will avoid lotas for the time being.

Was in TL yesterday and was "invited" to sign the book. I was absolutely appauled twhen I realised that I had to sign using the same pen as a million othe people before me. What's the point? Are they deliberately trying to pass it on? 

Got me a double dose from the lady with the handsanitizer. 

When I went into one of the restaurants, the same all over again!!!

That is why they have come up with the ThaiChana platform. The only thing you have to touch is your own phone. I'm sure you trust that don't you?

The way I understand it is:

It is contact tracing designed to provide your phone number and the time and date you were at any particular place ( mall, restaurant, etc ) so when any person is found to have Covid19 their movements can be traced and anyone who may have come in contact with them contacted.

 

The way it works is:

You are presented with a QR code on entry.

Open Line, click on “add contact “ , this will take you to a Line page where the QR code reader is available, choose this option and scan the code, another page will open ( presumably the ThaiChana platform) where you check in.

Check out on exit of mall or restaurant etc.

 

Signing in :

If the QR code is not set up or you do not have a smartphone/internet you will be asked to sign a paper with your name and phone number.

I was in Home Pro yesterday and I had to scan the QR Code on my phone, and it asks me a phone # so I put any # in and then I was good to go. When I left I had to scan out. So if you don't want to be traced just put in a phony # instead of yours.

Had to do the same in big C yesterday but the Thai family did theres by way of a mobile phone ,nobody could explain what it was for the girl just said no sign no come in to shop I could of signed in as Donald Trump they wouldn’t have know any better as they didn’t ask for ID or passport. Nobody told me to come back and sign out so they must think I’m still in the store maybe the government need to do a big advertising campaign to inform all its citizens and tourists

I try to run the roadblock as best I can.....if they do catch me, I just write down any old number and run.....????????????

why are you scared about putting your name & number down, if you are not a criminal or have nothing to hide then it's no big deal. No one is ever going to read the hundreds of pages once it's full.

Why worry if you have always abided by the law ?  They can get your phone number from your TM30 or 90 day reports anyway.

I was yesterday in Central Festival Pattaya. The whole procedure is pretty useless. The names on the lists are often hard to read and often the phone number is missing. Some shops didn't care at all anymore. And name and phone number - you can write what you want.

I went yesterday as well, but had to do the qr code check-in on phone. there wasnt ant writing on a list, That was entry from the car park

yes ....  it seems a pretty fruitless exercise, even if it's a case of ' being seen to be doing something '  it still doesn't add up as what purpose does the book serve.

Had this yesterday at Lotus in Satahip, name, phone number and time in, in a book at the 'in' door then sign out when you leave, different entrances in only and out only. Only went in to grab a pizza but Pizza Hut closed. KFC closed so drove to Burger King on highway 36 they are open and have a QR code at the door the the wife scanned it, they did not ask me  to do it.

A more important question would be, why is there a need to "protect" the 99.7% who will survive even if they do get the virus? With such an extremely high survival rate, I am a bit confused as to why the high-risk groups (0.3 % of the population) is not the target of safety and protection. Another question would be why hydroxychloroquine was removed almost immediately from pharmacies?  It is not dangerous and if it's so effective that it warrants removal from over-the-counter sales, who advised the Thai government to do so? Destroying an economy is a strange way to protect the tiny percentage of "at risk" human beings. IMO

Why would you not want to be alerted if there was a possibility that you had been in close contact with Covid spreader?

So what exactly are you scared of?  And why do you think you shouldn't be alerted if there is a detected outbreak in that store?

Because each person unknowingly with symptoms or without can infect dozens more and those dozens can infect hundreds more and depending on how many of those potential infectees are in at risk populations...the death rate could be substantially higher.

"Close" is the important word there, and it's something the cheapskate Thai system completely ignores. You might not have come within 200 m of the infected person, but the Thai China system doesn't know that, only that you were in the same superstore at the same time. So you will end up quarantined, along with everyone else who was in the store at the time, regardless of whether they came within 1 m or 50 m of the infected case. No Western country would ever try to implement such a stupidly blunt approach, that's why they're using the Google/Apple system to record exactly how close everybody would have come to the infected person via Bluetooth so they can quarantine only those people who strictly need it. At the moment, with no cases in the general population in Thailand, it's not an issue, but if we get a new wave that's much more serious than the first one then you could end up spending a lot of your time in quarantine for no good reason, just because the Thai government's too cheap, lazy and authoritarian to develop a proper tracking app.
