I've said it many times on here why don't the government issue insurance coverage in the ticket tax price?

I've always thought that to be the better idea without covid

First let tourists (from china) in not expats stranded away from there families.

It's this they way to show Thais there future?

I had a condo in Nirun condo Pattaya.

Since covid19 about 80% are now empty.

Expats have gone.

Left the furniture and even bikes behind..

Rumoured to not be coming back.

The Chinese have been snapping up the rooms for as little as 500,000 baht, semi furnished and sight unseen..

Obviously I also believe that they won't reopen in July nor August or September. But they must have to do it for the next high season. Unless they want to destroy the entire tourism sector not to mention all the related industries and lead many people to starving. The consequences would be far worse than what the virus could do

the way things are going, and barring any massive second wave, i see many countries slowly opening up to incoming tourism in the coming months. what countries need to do is get things going with domestic tourism, any western country with the stats thailand has i.e. considerably more deaths, on average, on the roads in two days than in two months from the virus, and with what must be an incredibly low R number, would be considerably more opened up than thailand

I take it this is only available for US citizens?

you might check out this one i done found on the googles:

i plugged in citizen of china, travel to thailand, age 50, $100k coverage, $1k deductible.  july 01-14.  cost  $36-42 depending on plan.  it looks like covid19 is treated like any other illness, subject to pre-existing conditions and who/cdc travel warnings.  would have to contact an agent to confirm that.

Safe Travels International is for Non US Citizens and Non US Residents while traveling outside their Home Country, but not visiting the United States. It can provide coverage for you, your spouse/domestic partner/traveling companion and dependent children/grandchildren. This plan does not cover USA.

https://www.trawickinternational.com/

i'm thinking the problem we're having is folks are looking at travel insurance and being told about covid19 exclusions, but those limitations may be on trip cancellation benefits rather than health coverage.

You can, Repatriation flights for most countries have been available throughout and still are.

This guy is already certain that there will be the so-called new wave. According to many virologists, the virus has weakened or is even dying. Nothing lasts forever

MERS is still around.

Will these tourist need a letter that they are fit to travel and have 14 days quarantine when they arrive also with $100,000 worth of insurance including Covid-19 covers.  They can get the virus here and bring it here just lie anyone else.  If those coming on work permit need it then everyone need it.  You open the gate to the Chinese and the situation will be worse then before.

their buddies in china get a pass

If it was not for the bars in this country, why would anyone want to visit other than playing golf?

Not even golf. People don't come to Thailand for 2 weeks to play golf. Its the perfect excuse to give their wives in their home country. Golf is secondary, its the nighttime activities that bring them here.

I really find this hard to believe that any country would be irresponsible enough to let their citizens travel.

Hope that I"m wrong, but I don't see this happening.  Just because Thailand wants it doesn't mean anything.

I am in a similar situation - thankfully, but having worked in China for many years I don't want to see needless slaughter that war would bring, the "Chinese" people are just like us to a large extent, slaves for a regime, the regime in China is the (minority) CCP (ruling Political party), the average Chinese are not high ranking party members and are used and abused at will, they would be the cannon fodder that you would like to see in a "skirmish", to bring peace to the mentioned nations & piece of mind to your good-self ???? The ruling elites would remain in power regardless, as they have in the West despite countless wars. I'm sure many nations look at the USA and have a similar view about them as you do the Chinese.

Nobody said life was fair and just! :shock1:

So a few placed bombs and special teams to take out those at the helm and then go from there. Sorry, the Chinese in power needs to be taken out and let the good Chinese take the helm. The Chinese government is pushing to control too many outside their country through trickery and bullying, so in my opinion it is time to take them out at all costs. If I so to be said die here from the incursion, then so be it. I won"t know it as I will be dead. Bottom line is my kids are still American passport holders too, and I want them to grow old with dignity not cow tailing to a BS domineering communist government. Let the chips lay where they will. It is time to go to bloody the Chinese BS.

One Thai tourism official has put it out there, he's a nobody looking for his 15 minutes of fame.

Ask ai Anutin and Prayut and you would get a very different take on it.

How many times has the US tried this and failed in numerous countries? Time to stop meddling in other people's politics. You really want another 9/11?

They only need China and India for now. MasterCard published their stats in 2019 when it awarded Bangkok most visited city on the globe. Chinese topped the list staying on avg 4.7 nights and spending 4k/day

Zero dollar tourists is one of the most worn out clichés in the TV toolbox????

Ah yes, let's encourage travel by the very same people who started the virus. Thailand is lucky that the virus didn't spread more, with all the Chinese who were here late last year and early this year.

We won't be that lucky the second time around.

I'm sure we're just around the corner from another pandemic brought on by China and eating creatures who shouldn't be eaten.

To top it off Chinese are known to be the cheapest group by country. They spend for their rooms and not much else.

Bad move.

Rooms?  The tour group arranges the rooms, food, and shopping - all with CCP-connected / owned companies who hire minimal staff per foreigner.  As well, the hotel / wait / counter staff have lower wages/tips than those working for businesses that serve Western customers.

The only thing the other Thai businesses see, is crowded sidewalks of gawkers, with flags on sticks bobbing around.

You are "averaging" the spending of a few whales, who have more money than god, with large groups who spend almost nothing.  Even that assumes MC was being honest.  There is nothing cliche about what I witnessed.

Only today some European countries are offering to Australia to come to Greece etc without any restrictions.

Shows what the world thinks about Australia and new Zealand.

Would be a missed opportunity for Thailand if it didn't respect the low risk opportunities.

And if they make it too restrictive or ridiculously expensive to get to LOS, people will go elsewhere.

Honestly I have the money to ride out a skirmish. I have zero debt and a good sized bank account and money on hand. With the skirmish can come peace of mind to Taiwan and all of the countries who the Chinese in the SE China Asian sea are bullying. I would love to see Tibet let free too. there is a price to pay for freedom against bullies sometimes. And China is an arrogant cry baby bully.

A "containment" strategy, as was used on the USSR, would likely be enough to get the CCP removed from power - or, at least, reverse their expansion of power outside the borders of China.  How long they would continue to hang-on in that situation - like the North Korean regime does - is hard to predict.  But given the Chinese people have much better idea of "how the rest of the world lives" than North Koreans, I doubt it would take that long.  I don't see a land-war type strategy working against China.

The question is, will the USA and other Western nations unite in that effort?

It is very funny to observe so many westerners discussing about how much the Chinese tourists are spending in Thailand. I suppose that the Thai government knows very well how to decide and what is prosperous for Thailand. Before the virus I saw many very wealthy Chinese here in Thailand and also a lot individual travelers. Why so many westerners are thinking that they are superior over other countries? They are rich and the others are poor and must do everything to please them. This is not true any longer. Thailand doesn’t need Europe and the US, but Thailand needs China.

The world is changing…China becomes the new super power. Trump tries to slow down this process but he will not succeed. Thailand knows very well which country is more important for them.

I don't think you understand what motivates Thai govt "decisions."  You mean, Thailand needs to be "Run By" China?  Because that is how it works.

Trump is not the issue.  Heck, his old business manufactured some of his (and his daughter's) junk in China.  The ones making the decisions for all presidents, of either party, will decide - and they seem split at the moment.

Thailand shifted to China, because the West shifted their MONEY to China - so the writing was on the wall.  We will see what happens when/if that process reverses, now that it is crystal-clear the CCP will not be turning into some enlighted-democracy, after being "exposed" to Western markets - as per the now-discredited sales-pitch for outsourcing to China, and cooperating with the CCP.

But for losers who cant make it in the clean developed economies

After the dot-com crash, then 9/11, and then the following layoffs, my long term fiance left me, leaving me with about a decade of the drudgery that is the American dating scene. For my first few nights in BKK to make up for that, I freely admit to being one of those losers.

No, the Thais are clever, they just try to make the best out of their position. Thailand is in comparison to China a small country and it is better to have China as a friend and not as an enemy. The US can treat China as an enemy, but for Thailand this would be too dangerous.

He mentioned Chinese people, including nationals of Hong Kong and Macao, South Koreans, Taiwanese, Vietnamese and Laotians among others.

Normally Thailand would be welcoming three million tourists a month but even 100,000 would be a good start and bring in 5 billion baht, he said.

If a million came that would be a much needed 50 billion baht, said the Thai Rath article.

If, when, maybe, perhaps, could.....most Thais didn't even realize that China was at fault, by not telling others early enough, what went wrong in their super laboratories.

I don't buy the bat soup story, and I believe that one of these specialists has sold infected bats from a laboratory to the Wuhan market.

But maybe it was meant to be a weapon, and a few things went wrong? When will China release the next virus or bacteria that will kill millions of people?

Instead of building a massive wall, they could name "The Great Wall Around China," they let precisely those people in where the virus started to spread around the world.

It's not only their viruses; their behavior is strange; they spit in pools, let their kids poop everywhere, and do not give a damn about anything.

The US should build new steel factories and stop buying steel from China, and there has to be an end with these copied products that aren't worth buying.

We are/were all suffering from China's Communist regime and should stop buying goods from them.

One is sure, Thailand will never be the country that it once was.

Western people do not seem to be on their list to come back soon, but that will change when it's getting colder in Western countries.

A new campaign, a new slogan, perhaps "Land of Smiling Soldiers without a Brain," and millions of European and American tourists will come back immediately.

The train has left the station long ago, but they don't seem to understand that.

You got it the wrong way round. They used to spend little on the room to save money for shopping. Now they spend on both. Or do you buy a 2 mill THB watch on holiday?

There really is no rudder here in Thailand.

Honestly, what people want and what other people want are two different things.  It's very much the same with countries.  Can you imagine China shutting down because some vacationers want to go on holiday?  That is just not going to happen.  It's positively ludicrous that a country would behave that irresponsibly.  Even China wouldn't do it.
