Proposed rehabilitation of THAI will expose a Pandora’s Box of corruption

Former international crime prosecutor, Mr. Wanchai Roujanavong, has likened the proposed rehabilitation of Thai Airways International to the opening of a Pandora’s Box, which will expose extensive corruption in the ailing national flag carrier which has hitherto been hidden from the public.

 

Writing in his Facebook post today, Mr. Wanchai said that the rehabilitation process is likely to reveal that THAI paid prohibitively high fees for the rental of aircraft, which is said to be one of the causes of the airline’s heavy losses. He claimed that the airline’s fleet was leased to THAI through several agents, allegedly with the consent of the airline’s board.

 

Without the proposed rehabilitation plan, the former chief prosecutor said that that the public would probably never know the truth “while the parasites carried on sucking the blood out of the airline.”

Corruption in the Thai government???? They must be joking!

Every country in the world has some form of corruption . Where I live politicians and local councils are in the developers pockets full time .

I hope Pandora (aka Thai Airways) isn't too embarrassed about having her "box" exposed for all the world to see. Do we expect any action to be taken against those who took advantage of her box... Nada!

Did anyone really thought otherwise? that such an enterprise reeks of nepotism, rort and favoritism will anything but corrupt to the core?... the blotted workforce headed by political appointees who knows nothing about running an airline, and the buying of new planes every couple of years should have a red flags enough to anyone but no one cares..

Mr. Wanchai also recommended that the loss-ridden State Railway of Thailand file for bankruptcy protection as well.

 

And open up yet another can of worms...

No it will be swept under the carpet, like is always the case, never to be spoken about again.

That depends on whether the guilty party is in or out of favor with the ruling Junta... 

 

If corruption charges will keep an opposition candidate out of the running, they'll jump on it.  With both feet.  If it's one of the junta's minions, they won't.

Yes, of course it will. They will se all the mistakes they did for it to be exposed. After that they will apply the necessary steps to make it perfect and never again be visible to the public.

But get into your first class seat and sip your champagne very quickly before you get bumped to cattle by an arrogant entitled pilot.

The trouble is that the corrupt are so corrupt that they suck too much too fast, so that there will be nothing left to suck in the future.  Who wants to fly a corrupt airline?   Really puts the army and the elite in a really bad light.  I will never fly THAI ever again.

Good points. This thread talks about the corruption, there's also cronyism and nepotism, both totally rampant in this airline (airline not the correct word, not quite true, it's really a powerful self organized self controlled, membership restricted hi-so status club with benefits). 

I can see a good book in the making here if anyone dares to write it

Yup. This is why it was big news when Airbus said they weren't renting their jets to THAI.

 

Who was renting them then? Many middlemen between. The same reason my and other teachers' paychecks are so small when we first start out in Thailand.

All will be hushed up somehow.

 

I think the corruption within THAI Airways goes right to the very top. Just look at where one of their parked aircraft recently turned up. 

what about impounding all the assets of those fake middle man agents that leased planes to thai and all involved ?

Thailand should follow China's rule on corruption.A single bullet to the back of the head. Thailand follows China in most other things but the problem here is the major offenders in Thailand are the people who govern and are supposed to enforce the laws. We just saw the watch case from a friend I cannot remember his name. What pay off did the corruption investigators get?  A classic case of putting the vampire in charge of the blood bank.

Never in history has a Thai won a Nobel prize. If there was one for corruption, nepotism or cronyism, they would have won several in a row already.

Thaiairways cancel flights now anyone who is waiting refund is told they are no longer processing refunds.

I will. Ever fly Thaiairways again.

I hope they collapses and are replaced by a real tei1 carrier
