It's a mystery to me, how so many grown ups, with access to computers and the right to drive  a car/ own a gun/ to vote...do not understand, that "Black Lives Matter" does not mean, that other lives don't matter and feel the need to let their racism show, time and time again!

But as an overtly race baiting white nationalist president the historic division he has greatly aggravated stimulated a reaction from his opposition which BTW represents the majority of the American people. 

Part of that reaction involves trashing confederate symbols and statues as the confederacy was based on preserving slavery of black people.

Defunding the police is  a political term that suits specific political agendas.

You must have missed the various reports of recent weeks where multiple former U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff members/ranking U.S. military officers publicly called on Trump to NOT bring the U.S. military into civil disturbances/protests. Pointing out correctly that the military's job is to defend the nation against foreign enemies, not to attack their own citizens.

 

I believe, one former Joint Chiefs of Staff officer was quoted as saying bringing the military into U.S. protests and civil disturbances would threaten the trust and confidence of the American public in the military that the military has been striving to regain for +-50 years since Vietnam.
