Only after another 14 days without domestic Covid-19 cases can Thailand 'consider itself safe

Thailand has had 13 days without any Covid-19 case and can consider itself safe if the trend continues for another 14 days, Dr Panprapa Yongtrakul, deputy spokeswoman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Sunday (June 7)

.According to epidemiology and disease investigation for Covid-19, there is a 14-day incubation period but the low-risk virus period is two times the incubation period, which is 28 days, she said.

Panrapa added that even though the country has not found any domestic cases for 13 days, people still have to act responsibly and follow disease prevention and control measures, wear a face mask, keep a distance, wash hands, and avoid going to crowded places.

Unless, of course, you are the arrogant Public Health Minister !

  • Noooooooooooo, surely the government is wrong here, they must impose at least 5 years more of the 'new normal' no bars, no alcohol in restaurants, no sitting on the same table as your family, social d

  • Pure BS! Thailand has been the safest country in the world. Everyone knows that. Just ask anybody in the government.

What does "low risk virus period" mean?

I’ve never heard of it and I’ve been following this whole thing closely, as have the majority of us I would think. A Google search returned the following, which suggests incubation beyond 14 days is negligible, i.e. around 1%.

There were 181 confirmed cases with identifiable exposure and symptom onset windows to estimate the incubation period of COVID-19. The median incubation period was estimated to be 5.1 days (95% CI, 4.5 to 5.8 days), and 97.5% of those who develop symptoms will do so within 11.5 days (CI, 8.2 to 15.6 days) of infection. These estimates imply that, under conservative assumptions, 101 out of every 10 000 cases (99th percentile, 482) will develop symptoms after 14 days of active monitoring or quarantine.

The general public will adhere to social rules and restrictions if they make sense, none of this is making sense now, out and about in pattaya and it is obvious people are fed up with this especially at night

Noooooooooooo, surely the government is wrong here, they must impose at least 5 years more of the 'new normal' no bars, no alcohol in restaurants, no sitting on the same table as your family, social distancing, no gatherings over 1, in fact, to show the government is in control, it is essential that the normal population must have no enjoyment whatsoever............

So, all they have to do before the 28 days is up is report one case of local transmission and the 28-day clock will restart. They pulled this 28 day thing out of their <deleted>. The Thai people in my neighborhood clearly aren't believing this, either. No masks. No distancing. The temp checker at the local night markets are gone.

It doesn't make sense because you are seeing it in a viral state. Whereas most of the restrictions and comments made by the health department are saying it with keeping the country controlled strictly to avoid any uprising.

Why not 14 months.....!? Just unbelievable. ????

Appearrently there were >28k more deaths this year, excluding BKK, than last year. You would expect a higher death rate from COVID in the densely populated city.  Most of these other deaths are attributed to respiratory diseases such as pneumonia. Someone has been telling some porkies.

Most people don't get enjoyment by oogling young girls for future brides in bars. Restaurants are operating normally. There is no issue with that. Malls are open. All shops are open. Yes, bride finding venues are closed but I don't care.

If there's no alcohol allowed in restaurants why is the Chinese restaurant next to me serving it every night!!!! Are the Chinese exempt and above the law in Chiang Mai?

Malls and shops seem like reasonable oogling venues if you don't need to be drinking while oogling.

It is lost on the idiots running this country that the object of social distancing, masks etc. was to “flatten the curve” so that hospitals would not be overwhelmed, not to eliminate the virus completely. The virus is not gone now nor will it be until there is a vaccine. To cripple your economy and starve your people in some vane finger pointing opportunity for a photo op is insanity. The first plane load of tourists will put the virus back in the news as most countries with competent leadership understand the term “flatten the curve”

This "crisis management" has brought the country already on its knees.
This is just to make a catastrophe complete.

How about those 100k test results as promised by Dr Plipat then? Not a single positive?

When will the roads be made “safe”?
