Is it only me or are other people tired of hearing seeing all the <deleted> about covid 19? Personally, I could,'t care which country is 1st, 2nd or 100th.

UK tests per million - 99,787

Thailand tests per million - 6.708

Think that pretty much sums up Thailand's ridiculously low numbers

That doesn’t sum up anything. If a country sees no outbreaks, there is no reason to test healthy people at random. That’s why researchers look at how many tests are performed per confirmed case. A good explanation and the data can be found here.

For the population size Thailand has done very well. Thai has been mentioned along with Singapore Nz Vietnam, Taiwan and Japan as maybe a tourist bubble ( similar to Hub ) Maybe.

i am from Australia. no way are we ahead of NZ or the real champs....Taiwan. where is No. 8 Lithonia? it can't be Lithuania because they are hopeless. I wonder did the Gullivers Travel Company include the land of Lithonia for this survey.

100% correct!! I am Canadian and live between Taiwan and Thailand and have been in Taipei for the duration.  Would never have wanted to be anywhere else the way they handled it here!!  And that angers mainland China in the process so even better!!!

We have some rather creative journalism going on here with conflicting reports on the data used to compile these rankings.

In the NNT National News Bureau of Thailand report it states:

"To decide rankings, 70 percent of the score was assessed from the drive and changes of the daily situation based on the number of patients under treatment; the rate of cured patients per number of patients; the number of tests per confirmed patients and the number of tests per population of the whole country"

The above in my opinion is complete spin and not a true reflection of how the data was complied, how a country like Thailand with such low testing ratios compared to the rest of the world could get ranked so high? The truth probably being that the data was not at all compiled as above. The actual data gathering for the first 70% score assessment did not include testing information or data on number of daily patients under treatment at all. Instead it relied solely on the number of deaths per captia as stated in their report:

"Proportionate Death Rate due to COVID-19
This parameter takes into consideration the crude death rates of each country and factors its population size, and then compares this to the death rates due to COVID-19 since the first case was reported in the country. This gives a true reflection of how death rates are being affected by COVID-19 in these countries.

The remaining 30% consist of static scores derived from the Global Health Security Index (GHS), an initiative led by the Johns Hopkins University that was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The GHS was developed to assess a country’s readiness to cope and handle any epidemic."

https://covid19.pemandu.org/about/

There are no true reflections of any numbers if you don't test everybody , all they have in my opinion is estimates and as to china , they are now being hit by a second small wave if you believe newssites from various countries . So please thailand think twice about letting these spreaders in as soon as possible because if there is one country that can make fake news better then thailand it's china. Where you think all the fake watches , handbags , clothes etc that are being sold here come from . I have been to bang saen last weekend and i must say the nr of thai tourists that where on the beach was quit big so try to keep this up and sing out the coming months with local tourists don't give in to letting chinese in to quick .

What about Faroe Islands?

Zero deaths and zero infected, what ranking did they get on this BS list?

Yeah, amazing what leadership by retired four star (or five star) generals can do. Eisenhower gave the US the only 8 year respite from casualties from foreign involvements -- and a huge expanding economy. Lyndon Johnson, kinda akin to the rice lady in decision making, got 58,000 US killed in SE Asia. Sadly, Prayut will never recover from the illegitimacy of his taking office. So be it. Let the facts speak for themselves, however -- sometime impeachment by another name pays dividends.

You are perfectly free to believe a similar number have died in Thailand as the UK, after all they have similar size of population.

To make sense of that chart, though, you have to consider the very, very, very tight filter Thailand put on the process of allowing a case to be officially confirmed compared to the processes in place in other countries.

Thailand did an amazing job. I ask you all to compare the testing regime in Australia to Thailand. Remember from the beginning all experts (WHO:cheesy:) said the more you test, the more you find. TEST, TEST, TEST.

And of course Thailand hasn’t told any porkys with regard to the numbers they wouldn’t would they. I think round 2 will show the BS the Chinese only held for a month before telling the world of the virus B- - t - - dsEd

If you only test a small percentage with faulty tests, and also "try" to fiddle the actual numbers so you can spin that Thailand is safe - then I'm surprised that Thailand did not come in 1st place.

my ozzie mate told me a couple of days ago that HE could be struggling to get a visa to return thailand.....

I have a retirement extension and reentry stamps.

Just didn't get out of Australia fast enough.

Thai airways had scheduled flights showing up to 31st March.

I had the 20th.

Which was great.

But was canceled by them.

Given the 27th which was still 4 days before the month ended.

Only to have a full suspension of flights from the 25th.

Nothing else to do but suck it up and wait..

The general scuttlebutt is suggesting that some further changes will be made pretty soon.

Won't be based on logic or peer pressure.

Just something dreamed up over a long free lunch somewhere..

They are sitting in the driver's seat.

Calling the shots.

But many people like myself have family and friends and homes there.

I hope it's not from the same company that ranked the USA and UK as 'most prepared for a pandemic' on the chart that Trump showed early on at that press conference.

I would rank that company as the worst in the world for companies that do rankings about who is the best in the world about global pandemics.

SO here's a suggestion.

Allow Australian people to return to their homes in Thailand  and anyone else who wants to get back.

One country at a time.

Starting with the number one for covid19 recovery.

No quarantine or crazy insurance cover.

that would be the logical way to do it

unfortunately they'll probably group Australia's figures with USA and UK so they'll be one of the last countries to be let back in

As an Australian, believe Thailand deserves 1st place - 70 mill people with four borders, 11 mill Chinese visitors a year and has achieved zero community transmissions in past three weeks while Australia is still has a few clusters. Seems a lot of miserable folk don't believe or understand why Thailand has been so successful, which I find staggering, given it's 6th ranking in John Hopkins University Health Security index.. https://www.pacificprime.co.th/blog/thailand-ranks-6th-for-the-worlds-strongest-health-security/

Apart from some earlier confusion, Thailand settled into restrictions with their community conformity, including masks (yes the white experts and WHO recently changed their tune on what Asians have known for ages - they reduce transmission), and their one million health volunteers in the villages. Compare this effort with most countries.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-thailand-volunteer/thailands-one-million-health-volunteers-hailed-as-coronavirus-heroes-idUSKBN23B044

Well done Thailand!

Now let's tackle high level corruption and road carnage..

Could it have been a team from the TVF?

When you look at TH and the neighboring countries, I'm going to put it down to luck and genetics, with a bit of culture thrown in.  With all the Chinese traveling to these countries before borders were closed, guaranteed there were super spreaders roaming around in these countries.

In which field have you specialised in to make this intellectual observation?

Vietnam had no deaths but is right down the list, we had 56 and are number 2, don’t know how they work that out ?

They took into account the pre-existing ranking in John Hopkins University Health Security index for 30% of the weighting where Thailand is ranked 6 and Vietnam at 50.. https://www.ghsindex.org/
