Ministry ‘sorry’ for hit-and-run incident, vows to punish driver

Once the clip of an official, flag-bearing government vehicle hitting and pushing a car off the road on Monday (June 15) went viral, the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry’s permanent secretary issued an apology on Tuesday saying the driver will be questioned and reprimanded for his action.

The car that was nearly hit was bringing back a soldier and a pharmacist from Chantaburi, where they had gone to teach people how to make hand-sanitising gel. The duo had captured the incident on their phones.

A clip of the accident has gone viral on social media. The car appeared to be that of a high-ranking official, while the rest of the cars in the caravan carried the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry’s permanent-secretary’s insignia.

Pol General Krisana Pattanacharoen, deputy spokesperson of Royal Thai Police, had said earlier that police would look into the case to see if it was under police supervision.

by the video, it was the silver van that actually struck the filmer

I'd have sat on my horn too!  - for to anyone fumiong at being close shave by the first vehicle, most likely missed the van had Flashers too? - and who else has often seen various Joe Bloggs jumping on the back of a flashing Emergency vehicle, trying to gain a jump on other road users

What is not clear by the video; is whether the filmer accelerated to keep with the Flashing sedan? or was the Flashing sedan actually reducing to speed match the filer, to get him to pull away?

I don't disagree...  But when the lights and siren are blaring away, it's an emergency vehicle.  Stand your ground at your own legal peril.

why would they need to be so close to the car ?

It looked like the other lane was empty, so why not use that lane.

An ambulance or fire engine, yes, move out of the way, police and other idiots can make their own way through

When i first came here 20yrs ago i was forced off the road by government vehicles. They were trying to hit me and as i didnt want to pay uo for a damaged hire car i manouvered out of harms way. I was shocked that pricks get away with this and my gf at the time said her family car has been hit and that i should know better and to get out of the way.

These people are in important positions? Idiots!!

The misuse of lights and siren can get the driver sanctioned in some civilized countries. They are supposed to be used for genuine emergencies, not for convenience.

Civilized countries are different! Their rules don't apply here!

Back home, the car doing the filming would have been pulled over and ticketed for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Back home rules don't apply in Thailand!

Maybe not, but most Thai traffic laws were modeled after "back home" laws.

In any case, I'd be real careful posting up video claiming the authorities did something wrong unless I knew for sure that same video didn't implicate me for violating a law.  Like failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.  Whether it was a true emergency or not isn't the point.  We as civilians don't get to make that call and decide which sirens and flashing lights we're going to ignore.

The vehicle blocking the road should have pulled over to the left instead and let the faster vehicles pass regardless. Why do these road hog types think they need to block the road and refuse to give way?

Only because they got "caught on camera" otherwise there would have been nothing said

So, someone refuses to pull over for a vehicle blasting its lights and sirens...

Please define "emergency vehicle". This is not "back home".

All over the world, VIPs and government officials get sanctioned police escorts to speed them along their way and provide security.

Whether it was justified in this case or not is a separate issue.  The issue I see is a vehicle not pulling over for an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens blaring away.  As we've all seen happening to ambulances and fire trucks.  For that, they'd have been pulled over and fined in most places around the world.

Exactly - pulled over and fined! Not run off the road!

Then look better

Enough too left side

Nobody need to stop only let them pass and he does

But not enough for the driver in the overtaking cars

And surely they have no rights to drive like that.

Just pass normal if they need to drive like this better they don't go nobody can endanger others lives not even an ambulance.

Allowing this is just one more step too far.

If you don't understand this you must do something about it

your statement is not ok.
