GENEVA (Reuters) - The COVID-19 pandemic is not even close to being over, World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a briefing on Monday.

Tedros noted that, six months after China first alerted the WHO to a novel respiratory infection, the grim milestones of 10 million confirmed infections and 500,000 deaths had been reached.

"Most people remain susceptible, the virus still has a lot of room to move," he said.

"We all want this to be over. We all want to get on with our lives. But the hard reality is that this is not even close to being over. Although many countries have made some progress globally, the pandemic is actually speeding up."

The World Health Organization issued a stark warning that the worst is yet to come from COVID-19 and that the pandemic is in fact accelerating around the world.

The head of the WHO's emergencies programme, Mike Ryan, told the briefing that tremendous progress had been made towards finding a safe and effective vaccine to prevent infection, but there was still no guarantee the effort would succeed.

In the meantime, countries could fight the spread of the disease by testing, isolating confirmed cases and tracking their contacts, he said. He singled out Japan, South Korea and Germany for their "comprehensive, sustained strategy" against the virus.

The WHO plans to convene a meeting this week to assess progress in research towards fighting the disease, Tedros said.

He said the same about Sweden before...

And this is the same WHO who believed China and said that there was no pandemic???

Exactly, reassuring to know that this is the person that is in charge of driving this "agenda" :shock1:

they're right (this time) as testing has confirmed even the most pox ridden country is only at about a 10% IR. Just read a new swine flu being studied that has health experts very concerned with its potential to mutate, just what we don't need..

Yes, as the SARS-CoV-2 turns out to be declining and even over in many countries already, and nowhere near the exponential killing as predicted, a new threat is needed. The world is full of viruses, pick one!

WHO is a china puppet

I agree WHO is a puppet, whether China is their controller - not so sure, look at who their biggest financial "supporter" is (Kill Bill Gates) then I think you will be getting nearer to finding out who really controls them!

No one is buying 'it's just a flu' any more. Daily cases are now rising sharply,  which gives you the exponential growth in cases. Even the number of daily cases is rising exponentially. Ruh-rho.

Buts it’s a Democratic Party hoax, cried Trump, praising China at that time.

Read “ The making of Trump”by Republican journalist David Cay Johnston  . Facts and figures . Amazing con man. Pulled of the Presidency !

I don't think Bill Gates has an official role in WHO to assert control and he is also not the largest donor.

A very egoist point of view !

If you get infected, you take the risk to infect older people around you (parents?...)

and the risk that they die from the virus you gave them !

I'm nearly 82.
