Teaching English ONline

Featured Replies

Hello

I am not sure this is in the correct forum, but I am a British expat considering teaching English online and I would welcome advice and/or recommendations regarding the best sites to register with

Many thanks in advance for your information

Best regards

The problem is there is no pay, while you are "on call.". The schools have no incentive to limit the number of teachers.  Chinese?  Distrust and verify.

Never work for a Chinese company. Mine is a US company and I am never 'on call'. Also, I would never teach kids.

Also considering online teaching options. Native English speaker no previous experience. Any advise appreciated.

I think most of the posters here have a licence and proper teaching qualifications and look down on online teachers so you may not get much advice(not advise) here.

Most Chinese online courses you need a tefl and according to Chinese law you can't be hired of you don't have one... you should check your spelling if you are a native speaker... there is a difference between advise and advice... and in this case I don't think you made a typo

and what is your company? If it is any good might want to sign up... or is that a secret?

If it's not a last resort or a means to supplement your income on a short-term basis, I'd avoid it like the plague. As has already been mentioned, you'll more empty promises than pay checks especially if the company is Chinese.

GF of a friend was quite positive about working for 'palfish', which I believe is Chinese.

and the sçum are out lying, err I mean recruiting before they have received their first check.

I've posted before about my own position (teaching online, previously teaching at B&M schools in Myanmar).  I teach ESL for several different Chinese employers, and I also teach elementary grade science via the iTalki website.  I typically take home 100,000 baht each month, but that income is at that level because I don't want to work for more hours (I teach about 40-45 hours per week).

I've never had any problems with non-payment from any company, and I don't take any 'lip' from them either.  I learnt yonks ago that Chinese business people have minimal respect for someone who is 'nice' in business dealings with them.  I teach for them and 'down tools' if my monthly payment is 1 day late.....  They quickly learnt not to mess me about ????

I teach mainly via iTalki now, because I prefer to teach science.
