How the other half (or 1%) live ! If he had been some poor peasant farmer, this would never have happened. I wonder how the family of the deceased feel about this strange decision ?

  • Absolutely disgusting.  Corruption is alive and bigger than ever in Thailand.  This is like defecating on the victims grave.  You kill someone you should face court no matter who you are.

Sadly typical Thailand. Money is more important than justice and what is right. Just like years ago a certain person killed a policeman in front of numerous witnesses and the charges were dropped.

Proof that we live in a banana republic.

As usual. Nothing eye catching here. Just another business deal in the shiny world of the untouchables.

I am sure @Yinn will explain us how this is perfectly normal and we Farang should stop wingeing.

And why do Farangs winge and whinge? How does this affect us? You're still here, no?

knew the  poor  misunderstood  fellow was being victimised  all  along

So he didn't murder a policeman then? I actually feel sorry for the police, who will now know their lives are just expendable assets.

The word "disgusting" doesn't even begin to describe the actions of the junta.  Thai is beyond tarnished.

Agree'd, No doubt there will be many butthurt over it but they won't think twice to take advantage of it should the need arise.

Yea, many the world over would buy their way out if they could and had the money. That doesn’t make it right or mean we should just accept it. It means the justice system is completely broken. And that just increases the likelihood of rich punks thinking they can drive drunk and dangerously, etc.

It’s all fine for people who have the ‘mai pen rai’ attitude until someone they care about gets hurt. Then they’re “butthurt” and screaming for justice.

It’s all fine until it’s not.

Some of us learned to live with it, some left because of it, some whine about it on fora.

This was indeed the only logical outcome, however abhorrent it seems to us. “Justice” for the family I assume will have come from a substantial payout which is terms of them will be more important than having the scumbag put away in jail. Although nailing him may have made them feel better, the cash will help them for the rest of their lives (assuming they don’t just blow it all) - so in reality is a better option for them.

this does show Thailand in a terrible light for the rest of the world - the only option we have is to stop buying the sugary products that his family produces, sadly I don’t do that anyway.

So what are you going to do about other than moan ?

Most likely the family got the least of the lot, most went to the usual guys.

I believe the family already received an offering. Don't recall if they accepted it.

The really sad thing is that HI-SOs will openly brag about the law not applying to them. Everyone knows and accepts that this is just "the way things are in TH".

Doubt many outside of Thailand care about it let alone know.

I guess the little boy wants to return home to mummy. Man, that must have been one hell of a brown envelope, specially made for the occasion.

Charges have been dropped against Red Bull heir Vorayuth Yoovidhaya over the 2012 hit-and-run killing of a police officer.

Mr Yoovidhaya was accused of hitting the officer with his car in the capital, Bangkok, then fleeing.

He repeatedly failed to meet police to face the charges, which include reckless driving causing death.

Thai Police say these charges have now been dropped, but it is unclear why.

Condemn it. Like any decent person would.

"the only option we have is to stop buying the sugary products that his family produces"

It won't hurt them very much, I think.

On the other hand, if they stop sponsering sport events, I am afraid it would be dramatic for many.

Maybe the deceased's family relented on the kid coming back to Thailand so they can arrange for a hit.

Sickening news. He’s not a man he’s just a little mummies boy. Hopefully one day he gets his comeuppance.

Unfortunate, but predicted end to this issue...can pretty much guarantee that many pockets were lined - probably including the victim's family.

Great, job done, carry on.

So why drop the charges? You seem to know his movements quite well so maybe you can enlighten us.

I am sure they received a payout to keep them quiet.

It was offered but his widow refused it, she should have taken it and hired a hitman because that would be the only way she would get any justice.

Correct. It would not be a surprise if he has been hiding in plain sight, same as Kamnan Po and a host of other high profile criminals with money and connections.

Quite a surprise considering the great lengths that the police went to in order to arrest him, they left no stone unturned. Must have been a huge envelope.
