Law professors demand explanations from prosecutors and police over Red Bull heir’s case

A group of 32 law professors, at Thailand’s Thammasat University, signed a statement on Monday calling on the Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) and the Royal Thai Police (RTP) to disclose to the public the full details of the legal proceedings in the Red Bull heir’s hit-and-run case, and the reasons why they decided not to prosecute.

 

In the statement, the professors said that the Red Bull heir, Mr. Vorayuth Yoovidhya, was initially charged with five offences by the police and, if the case had been handled in a straightforward manner and the suspect found guilty, why he might have been given a suspended jail term.

 

Due to the social and economic status of Mr. Vorayuth, however, the professors allege that there have been systematic efforts to assist the suspect to avoid prosecution, to the extent that some officials have already been disciplined.

The professors can demand an explanation, but have no chance of it ever happening.

Too many officials/ police have got BIG backhanders from this case, cover up, cover up, is the name of the game.

And who disciplined them?   In a very top down government, there are probably only two people who could do this.  One dislikes debates and the other likes fine watches.   Wonder which one it was.

Exactly, even if this is blown away as we expect Mr. Vorayuth Yoovidhya is going to find it hard to return and walk around like normal, he will be vilified everywhere he goes and with everyone he chooses to be with.

The press will hound him forever.

He might have got his name cleared but coming back here to a normal life is going to prove difficult.

Not so sure about that. He can send his driver or a bodyguard into the 7-Eleven to buy a coke on his way to a Bangkok night club where the owner will personally welcome him back because he knows the 200,000 Baht bill will be paid without an eyebrow raised. The hostesses will be fighting who can sit with him in his VIP room looking forward to big tips. Fellow heirs of the rich and famous will gather around him to hear from him personally how he got away with it all and to be reassured they can also should the need arise. Telephone numbers of people to contact will be exchanged. Then they will all have a good laugh at the ordinary people who can do absolutely nothing about it.

The press will easily be kept at bay and yes there will be an occasional photo of him getting in or out a limousine but he will not lose any sleep over that. It will quickly fade away.

It was the Law that circumvented the Law so to me the emphasis should be on who ever made this happen with no holds barred

Why is anyone even remotely surprised by this latest development? This is how it was going to pan out. This is just the beginning, or the lifting of the rug for the sweeping to begin. This is why he hasn’t shown up on INTERPOL’s wanted list. Because the prosecutors haven’t submitted an arrest warrant or at least a Red Notice. The dude isn’t a fugitive. He knows it. Papa knows it. And the prosecutors know it. A few million baht in brown envelopes is nothing to the family.

The law professors missed out on those brown evenlopes I imagine.They were not high enough maybe to receive one.If it is cancelled the case he has paid his fees well and truly by now

They should have been kicking off when it first happened and no effort was made to arrest him. A bit late now. Where were the protests then?

In Thailand the press do not hound VIPs, the rich. The press know their place, which is not to ask embarrassing questions but to kneel to their 'superiors', as Thai culture demands and as they have been taught from birth.

The question should be where are the protest now.

 

All I see is 32 law professors from the Thammasat university demanding answers.

 

Last time I checked there were over 70 million Thai people, and isn't Thammasat the one and ONLY place in Thailand where ALL protests are coming from for years already?

 

What are the results of any of those protests so far, other than a headline on Thaivisa for a few days?

Law Professors? in Thailand, teaching Law? Commenting on Thai Law?  Umm, okay.  I guess that is a bit like being a Professor of Religion; teaching the unbelievable and impossible to the gullible.
