Police chief to get full report on Vorayuth case

Police will submit the full case report to the police commissioner on August 11 about the sudden change in the speed calculation of the car in Vorayuth Yoovidhya’s alleged hit-and-run case.

Vorayuth has been accused of causing the death of a police officer after his Ferrari crashed into the policeman's bike eight years ago.

Pol Lt-Geneneral Jaruwat Wisaya, the Assistant Commissioner at the National Police Office, said on Friday that the special committee investigating the case had collected all papers to present to Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda, the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, on August 11.

The case trigerred nationwide anger after a decision to drop the charges against the accused.

Regarding the issue of speeding, Lt-Colonel Thanasit Taengchan, an officer from the Office of Police Forensic Science who had inspected the hit-and-run scene in 2012, on the same day reversed his result by providing the original file to the committee stating that Vorayuth drove at 177 kilometres per hour instead of the 2016 report that said he drove at 79.23kph. He told the committee that he was confused by the calculation formula.

The committee has received reports from experts who have all confirmed that cocaine in Vorayuth’s blood came from a drug, not an anaesthetic in a dentist's house. The committee is now prepared to suggest to the police commissioner to charge him with cocaine use.

Shame on him and his parents, for not guiding him to do the right, by confessing his guilt instead of helping him escape, and now trying to whitewash it. If he had confessed, repented and spent a few years behind bars, he could have come out a better person and become a role model to society. Now everyone only curses them. And if he was not guilty at all to start with, they could have hired the best team of lawyers and defended him.

He probably would not have gone to gaol.

Full immediate confession and apology  (and no cocaine charge) and his sentence would probaly have been suspended.

Well and truly shined a light on things that like to try to hide in the darkness, all made possible by the world leading incompetence and dimwitery of the Thai ruling classes, it's like a masterpiece of incompetence really....

After 8 yrs you would think he would have read a full report

The police chief was expecting another witness statement from charlie but 8 years later it appears that has been sniffed up Vorayuth's nose ????

I remember a senior judge suggesting this would have been the possible outcome a few years ago when the incident occurred.

It was in one of the local papers.

But the family wouldnt even accept that so ploughed on with their arrogance until it has come to this.

What horrible people they are.

Or ordered to do 20 hours of care work in a hospital then there would be confusion that he had already done the hours without the justice authorities authorizing which hospital then the owner of the hospital says 'but he's my friend so no need to do the hours'.

All sweet.

Let's clarify that for better understanding:

Officer Thanasit had ORIGINALLY stated that the car drove at a speed of 177 kph, and it was recorded like that in the original file.

But in 2016, he suddenly REVERSED his findings, stating that the car's speed was "only" 79.23 kph.

And now, yet another 4 years down the road and with all that public anger welling up, he GOES BACK to his original calculation of 177 kph, blaming his 2016 mistake on "confusion with the formula".

Why do I have the impression that his "confusion" might have been caused by some bundles of 1,000 baht bills that were waved in front of his face back in 2016?

Apart from that, even 79.23 kph already was considerably ABOVE the speed limit in Bangkok.

They keep answering to the higher ups, like the underlings had anything to do with the fix.

They are explaining themselves to the actual people that need to be explaining themselves.

Well, it's about time sir that you will wade into the murky waters of this highly controversial fiasco and put an end to this charade and blatant miscarriage of justice...

I'm sure the police chief already received the full report in a big brown envelope. I guess he will need another now.

Asking the police to investigate themselves here, is in and of itself proof of how uninterested the administration was, in saving this case. Pure, unadulterated folly. It just adds to the extreme lack of credibility these franchisees already have.
