Chatchai Promlert, Interior Ministry’s permanent secretary

Udon Thani, Loei and Lamphun have been named the cleanest provinces in last year’s waste-management contest, “Clean Province”, the Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday (August 11).

Chatchai Promlert, Interior Ministry’s permanent secretary, said the aim of the contest is to encourage provinces to launch eco-friendly waste-management projects.

The contest results were as follows:

• Large provinces: The winner was Udon Thani, followed by Lopburi and Chaiyaphum. Ubon Ratchathani and Si Sa Ket were given honourable mention.

• Medium provinces: The winner was Loei, followed by Chanthaburi and Yasothon. Phichit and Phitsanulok were given honourable mention.

• Small provinces: The winner was Lamphun, followed by Angthong and Bueng Kan while Singburi and Uthai Thani were given honourable mention.

“Lamphun has been named the cleanest province for three consecutive years,” he said.

Chatchai added that Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda was concerned about rising piles of refuse and is urging provincial governors to monitor local administrative organisations' work on waste management, urging people to undergo the 3Rs initiative (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and pay attention to sorting waste.
