Somehow I feel sorry for this young guy. Stupid familly who incite a kid to play with guns and allow a 17 yo guy to go to confront protesters with a rifle. Stupid cops who welcomed an underage boy with a riffle (or anyone with weapons) to a protest.

You are right, what a messed up country!

There is something just way creepy and disturbing with this picture in light of what he was just involved in...he looks like he should be in Lord Of The Flies...

How could decent cops welcome a teenager with a rifle to a protest? Why didn't they tell him to go back home and spend the night with his PlayStation?

It's a grey area but the kid wasn't necessarily breaking any laws by attending a protest with a semi-automatic rifle.  Not being argumentative but that's how it is.

The poor kid was surely convinced he was the good guy. His parents convinced him, the police welcomed him.

How could a decent familly let a 17 yo boy go to a protest with an automatic rifle? What a shame! Would any TVF poster allow their kids to do that?

This poor kid has now his life <deleted> up because of stupid adults who failed to protect him.

Yeah, my older boy bought it at age 20, so it goes.  https://jrhsnjrotc.org/in-memoriam-lance-corporal-karl-r-linn

You may be right. However, they could have advised him to go home.

In fairness, the police weren't doing much at all, other than being reactive rather than proactive.

If the boy had had a handgun then the law is a little more clear, which is odd seeing as the long gun is far more lethal, in my opinion.  But, laws are laws and I'm not out to change the world but I do have a lot of respect for the lad.  I also come from a line of police officers - which stopped at me - but I'm all for upholding the law.

Now here’s a real article, not an opinion piece, with real source material, real video, and real court document citations.

I read the link. You have, perhaps deliberately, misrepresented the content, no wonder the killer has been charged with first degree homicide.

I posted literally only the headline and the link and zero opinion so how could I have possibly “misrepresented” anything ????

Not what I've read - the guy was breaking local law as underage to open carry the weapon.

Typical. Only an issue because he's black... police officers scream "DROP THE KNIFE, DROP THE KNIFE". He can see guns pointed at him, yet continues to walk over to open his car door, and lean in over the seat where he cannot be seen.

You didn't answer my question.  You just posted something wholly irrelevant to my question.  Why?  I'll have to assume it's because you can't answer it.  You needn't go through such great lengths to avoid it, though.

LOL...........if you can't see the relevance of my post to your "questions" then there is no hope for you, or you are a republican!!!!

Quote: "Wisconsin isn’t a “Stand Your Ground” state, and Rittenhouse was in illegal possession of a weapon — under Wisconsin law, it is a Class A misdemeanor for a minor to carry a deadly weapon in the open. There is also no legal right in the state to use deadly force for the protection of property you do not own. And in any case the “Castle Doctrine” only applies to the use of deadly force in one’s home, vehicle or business.

Baby faced and shooting a rifle...

How the police who came into close contact with him prior to the shootings could not have recognized or at least questioned that he's a juvie is hard to fathom... Or maybe they did recognize, and just didn't care.

Now, if he had been a BLACK teenager with a rifle out amid the chaos, somehow I'm wondering if the local cops would have been passing out water bottles, or perhaps doing something else...

Right! And how his parents could allow that is beyond me.

"Mum, I'm going to the protest with my rifle!"

"Ok, have a glass of milk first! And don't forget to take extra ammunition, you airhead!"

I asked the same questions earlier in this thread -- where was Mom when he was posting online videos assembling and shooting his rifles... and again... where was Mom when he was out late the other night and traveling 20+ miles away from home with his rifles and related gear?  Did she even know he was going out loaded?  And if so, what exactly did she think he was going to be up to?

Mom & Dad are too busy these days to care for their kids...

I thought I saw in one of the articles I read referring to her as "a single mom".  I haven't seen any mention of a present father that I can recall.

My comment was referring to 'in general'...

Not only did police come in close contact, they handed out bottles of water to them and thanked them for being there.

Instead they should have been arrested for breaking curfew.
