Navy: Country Needs Submarine

This huge chinese subs is a very easy target if their in the gulf of Thailand on the westcoats andaman sea having a larger sub can make more sense but would not be ideal for even that area for border protection if that is the major case they are buying them for. The the SAAB A26 line of submarines would be much more suitable and they could get 10 units of the A26 submarine for every Chinese sub they are buying but not as much pocket money. And in exercises with the US navy among other the SAAB submarines were undetectable and if the US Navy cant beat them other Navies for sure wont.

Exactly what is the threat to Thailands national security that can be resolved with a Submarine??

Especially when considering the Gulf is too shallow (Av depth 58m).

Thailand is better off putting the Billions of Baht for the cost of a Submarine towards a social welfare system to avoid the country going down the drain when 20%+ unemployment is realised after they killed off the economy due to the Covid-19 hysteria.

Admirable thought old chap!

But sadly can't  see enough backhanders in that to entice anyone

Thailand cant even provide proper waste management collection/facilities for the people, let alone billions of Barht for Submarines to protect what?????

You don't need efficient waste management when there are "side of the roads" everywhere.. jeez

VAdm Thaloengsak Sirisawat, director-general of the Navy Operations Department, said the country needed enough resources to protect its sovereignty and maritime routes in the event of a maritime territorial dispute or clash in the South China Sea.

Yeah ok... the sub will "pop-up" in the south China sea to tell China to sod-off, like that's gonna happen?

The Bt22.5 billion payment will be divided into seven annual instalments of Bt2 billion-Bt3 billion

Yep, we all know that counting and Thailand is not compatible. Also there is no upgrade available today or in the future. Everyone knows that´s a maximum of 21 billion, without a calculator.

Navy defends Bt22.5bn deal for submarines as ‘good value’

Tell that the the people below the 1% threshold. You know the 99% that are suffering from the pandemic.

China must have made a very good deal to sell submarines to a country that doesn’t need them.  A friend of mine retired from international military equipment sales, told me how China sells.  They have low prices for inferior products, and provide generous kickbacks.  American competitors must adhere to strict accounting, and have little price adjustments.

Takes years to build up a submarine force

1. First thing you need is a professional pool of military soldiers, sailors and technicians not to mention leadership with a high degree of education and ability, also required is appropriate infrastructure to deliver the training and development required to achieve the aim of a 21st century Submarine capability

2. Cannot......

And their aircraft carrier is used for what Garage

Perhaps the Admirals have a valid point.  We all see how China has falsely claimed the South China Sea.  Next, China will produce a map of the “West China Sea” a.k.a. the Gulf of Thailand—and lay their claim to it.  Finally, the Chinese will chose a remote rock reef in the Gulf, and dump enough fill onto it for a 4000m runway.  Thai submarines could deter this, and save the Gulf!

Now it is proven beyond reasonable doubt; the navy is doomed as well - if the defense, serving the government and latter the people, comes up with such incomprehensible stuff ...

The kiddies in the toy store; Sitthiporn Matkasem and his Thaloengsak Sirisawat do not need any such  resources to protect Thailand's sovereignty and maritime routes in the event of a maritime territorial dispute or clash in the South China Sea.

The South China Sea is none of Thailand's business - it is called the Gulf of Thailand. Latter is not accessible for submarines due to its shallow coast line.
The Cambodians have different fish to fry and so do the Malays. Singapore is a fairly grown-up country with a definitely wiser set of ministers steering the country. The Burmese would have a hell of an access trip all the way from Rangoon and well, Laos, to my latest update, is and remains a landlocked country. The Mekong is on the way being dried out by dams operated by the Chinese and the Thais = no need for submarines either.

In short; why dont the navy clowns come with a better excuse for a bigger circus, just help themselves with the cash they want to steal and whitewash and leave the submarines in peace.

After all, the learning curve of the Chakri Naruebet aircraft carrier is a THB 1.9+ million affair, each and every day since commissioning 23 years ago!

The price tag of then USD 285 million (in today's money THB 16.7 billion) stands against the fact, that thee is not a single aircraft left being airworthy = aircraft carrier turns into a huge yacht?

Never a day of active duty (thank the Lord for that) and no threat in sight as well. Even if there would be an invasion, the vessel is a sitting duck without a single airworthy plane.

So much to the navy and its farsightedness! This country is seriously srecwd with such pr1cks going shopping with money the country really could put to much better use!
