PHUKET:-- Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kebsup has arranged for tuk-tuk and motorbike taxi drivers to charge only B20 fares for people attending the ‘Phuket Tastival & Seafood Gastronomy’ event in Patong this weekend.

Mayor Chalermluck met taxi drivers yesterday (Aug 28) and explained that the event, being held today through Sunday night (Aug 30), will bring many people to the town.

The festival, originally scheduled to be held at Loma Park, has now been moved to be centred at the beach end of Bangla Rd.

"“All drivers together agreed to provide this service at the set rate,” Mayor Chalermluck confirmed.“

I don't even live in Phuket, but I just wonder how well this might work, given the experience I've had elsewhere?

I'm guessing the tuk-tuk drivers will wait for a full load and pack them in like sardines at 20 baht per head.

Reminds me of a time when my relatives visited Phuket and went to Patong. They were staying in Karon and wanted a tuk tuk back and the driver said 700 baht.

Once they arrived at the hotel the driver started to demand 700 each person. He wanted 2800 baht for 4 people.

After all the drama of police and surrounded by other taxi mafia who arrived to support the scammer they ended up paying 1400 baht.

Police are complicit in a lot of this.

No sympathy for this people (scammers : taxi mafia)

“Phuket Tastival & Seafood Gastronomy”

As with last weeks food stalls on Bangla, exactly what the remaining restaurants in Patong that are struggling to survive (& retain staff) are wanting to see.

keep up the good work

Note that 95% of those attending this food festival are Thai... I wonder if a faring comes along he will pay only 20 bt - I DONT THINK SO !!!!
