UBON RATCHATHANI, Aug 31 (TNA) – Ubon Ratchathani governor remains vigilant to strict control border crossings to prevent recurrence of Covid-19.

Sarit Withoon, the governor of this northeastern province, bordering Laos disclosed that more officials have been deployed to station along the border to prevent illegal immigration through natural border crossings.

Currently, only Chong Mek border checkpoint in Sirindhorn district is opened for goods transport and patient transfer under the disease control measures.

Tightening the rules is irrelevant, since almost no one is currently permitted to cross, but that appears to be an error by the writer of the headline. As hinted at later, whatever actual danger exists is from illegal border crossers - who presumably stay well away from checkpoints - so the question is how well the authorities can really control those remote areas.

Thai/Cambodian borders are very long and very porous. Who needs a checkpoint to cross?
