Eventually all will be released.

I understand the need to delay until after the election, but in four, or more, years, when all is reviewed and written about, his legacy will be in tatters.

And there are copies of financial records and tax returns scattered about, and these will be leaked soon.

Maybe better to just release some tax returns, and then be ready to defend whatever might be revealed?

We're told that the IRS have completed audits, so there isn't anything illegal in the returns. Then you can own the libs.

The only defense seems to be one of "protecting the office of the president", solely for future presidents - nothing about privacy. That seems weak.

I'm continually amazed that so many on TVF can foretell the future, just like when they were so accurate when Trump was given no chance of winning in 2016.

The fact they haven't been in four years militates against your statement...in addition to the fact that disclosing someone's income tax returns is a federal crime. I take it you're not endorsing law-breaking are you?

It wont stop when he is out of office either.

At the moment he is president and with that comes people who will use his properties.

When he is out he can expect a big drop in patronage. Better start another business to bankrupt or charity to steal from.

In seeking a stay, William Consovoy, another lawyer for Trump, told the appeals court that giving Vance a chance even to see the returns would cause the president irreparable harm.

"The status quo can never be restored," he said. "We can't make them forget what they learn."

The above  seems to say all !

The taxes would not be 'released' to the public.   They would be released to the investigator.   No 'mob' is going to see them and even if they did leak something, it would probably be more confusing than helpful.

Thank you for proving my point of the  Optics of  Doubt    (speculation, political fodder) in Post 17

It is written in US law that the House of Representatives can request anyone's tax records and the treasury department SHALL comply.  No wiggle words there.

But when P.O.S POTUS ordered treasury to not comply, THAT is the crime.

It's sad that when he repeatedly violates US laws (the Hatch Act being the most recent) the media says it MAY have been illegal. And the GOP denies knowing about it.  What does it take?

This thread involves the local Manhattan district attorney's attempt to obtain the President's tax records...not the House of Representatives. As for the House and its right to obtain personal tax returns of Americans...they do if its for a legitimate legislative purpose, which in this case it's certainly not; and that's why the courts have enjoined Nancy and her henchmen from getting them.

Nothing.

So why not release them?

Let's be honest for a change.  What we do know with certainty is that there are plenty of people who hate Trump with a passion and who lack any semblance of self integrity causing them to willingly and knowingly put out false information about Trump.  We also know these some people only want to get his tax returns in order to find dirt on him.  Can you imagine, then, the endless false claims that would arise as these people pour over his returns?

Would you put yourself in that situation?  Put aside your feelings for Trump and be honest and objective here.

And there are plenty of people, including you, who blindly accept anything that Trump says as gospel and cast in stone.

If Trump has nothng to fear in his tax retuns, then as an honest POTUS, why not release them?

Every refusal makes it look as though he is hiding something nasty.

Trump no doubt knows that if he did release his returns it would not quell the mob and they'd be saying he didn't release everything because there was nothing in the ones he did release to cause concern.

Yet if he had released them before or just after he became POTUS then he wouldn't have everybody and their dog on his back.

Assuming, that is, if there is nothing to find in there.

Nothing in the law about legislative purpose. It says SHALL.

Laws say a lot of things, which are interpreted by the courts; in this (and prior cases not specifically related to tax returns), the courts have ruled that Congress must have a reason ("legislative intent"...it is a legislative, i.e., law making, body after all) for the records and testimony it seeks.

So in order to prevent people making false accusations, Trump is hiding his tax returns, what creates people make this accusations in the first place..

You mean the way Trump endorses voter fraud to the citizens of the great state of North Carolina?

Maybe you mean to protect his privacy (and by extension everyone else's too)?

As the president on of the downside is your privacy. Similar to working in a particular role at a bank, you'll have to show your finances to be sure you're not in financial difficulty.

Showing your legitimate and honest is simply a requirement that comes with the job.
