The Department of Disease Control (DDC) provided updates on Monday (September 7) of the people who are suspected of having been in contact with the 37-year-old man who tested positive for Covid-19 while in detention at the Central Special Correctional Institution for drug charges.

This is the first locally transmitted Covid-19 case in Thailand in 101 days.

The people the man was in contact with before and during the 14 days before he was confirmed infected were:

• 12 family members who all tested negative using the RT-PCR laboratory test.

• 137 residents of the suspect’s condo in Bangkok’s Bang Mod area, who also tested negative.

• Of the 492 people who were at Criminal Court on August 26 – the suspect’s trial date – 14 are at high risk as they were in direct contact with him. Of the 14, 13 have tested negative so far, while the last one will undergo a test on Tuesday. Of the remaining 478 persons considered to be of low risk, 146 tested negative while 332 others were ordered to stay in quarantine for 14 days.

• 6 persons at the Department of Corrections’ Hospital who had been in contact with the man but are at low risk of infection. They have been told to stay in quarantine for 14 days.

• 111 persons at the Central Special Correctional Institution who had come in contact with the man. Of them, 24 officials face a high risk of infection and will undergo tests on Tuesday and Saturday; 52 officials are considered to be at low risk and have been quarantined for 14 days, while the 35 inmates who shared the same detention cell as the patient are considered high risk. Of the inmates, all but one, whose test result is still pending, have tested negative.

• 8 persons who were transported from court to prison in the same van as the patient and are considered to be at high risk have all tested negative and will undergo a second test on Tuesday.

• 18 out of the 34 persons at a night-time venue on Rama III Road, where the patient had been working as a DJ, have tested negative for Covid-19, while the results of 16 persons are still under investigation.

• 25 out of 60 persons at an establishment on Rama V Road where the patient had been working have tested negative, while the rest are considered to be at low risk and have been told to quarantine for 14 days.

• 15 persons at an establishment on Khao San Road where the man had been working have tested negative.

• 112 persons who were at Khao San Road the same day as the patient have all tested negative.

• 3 persons at a school in Pracha Uthit area are considered to be of low risk and told to quarantine for 14 days.

• Officials are investigating a mall in Suksawad area for people at risk of infection.

As many as 990 people were in the patient’s vicinity, 118 of whom are at high risk, 856 at low risk and 16 are under investigation. So far, 520 persons have undergone tests and none have been found infected.

There is absolutely no chance that 100% of the people he came in contact with all tested negative unless the DJ's test was defective and showed a false negative; either that or big coverup underway

Reports today in the paper-that-must-not-be-quoted that hospitals in Nan are pleading for more C19 kit as they've run out due to the new wave that's hitting Myanmar. Does that mean the virus has already spread across the border and Thais in Nan are coming down with it and need hospitalisation now, or is it just Burmese who've crossed the border (legally or illegally) and have tested positive? The Nation, meanwhile, reassures us that with security forces on both sides on full alert, nobody could possibly cross the border undetected. I wonder if the Bangkok DJ ran into any itinerant Burmese labourers?

Possibly - however apparently most infections are from super-spreaders.  If he was infected from a foreign drug runner or crossed the boarder, then he may be in the later phase of infection.  The most infectious period is supposed to be the first week.   Or it could be a cover up ????

1) Somebody posted on here yesterday that prisoners are all kept in quarantine for 14 days when put into prison. Then, why did 111 people come into contact with him in the prison and why were 35 other inmates in contact with him right after he got there?

2) How in the <deleted> are 100% of people tested coming back negative?! The negative rate doesn't even seem possible if you consider that all forms of the test have some sort of percentage of false positive...the negative rate seems even lower than that if it's 100%. For example if a test has a 2% false positive and you test 700 people who came into contact with this guy, we should be hearing that 14 people were positive and being monitored to see if they come up positive on re-test, right?

Swab test picking up dead cells and giving positive result as is the case in a recent test in Uk, in the Uk the test was positive and a culture test was ordered in the lab, it failed to grow due to it being a dead cell, so test reclassified as a false positive.

And or some of the people tested may well have  in there own bodies signs of previous infections, or it really is true there is/was no CV19 in Thailand.

Maybe they have a large communal quarantine cell ?

I dont think Thai jails have very many solitary confinement cells , enough to hold all new prisoners'

It was always the case the G614 would eventually return from the West. Seems it's coming now. And you can name Bangkok Post, you just can't link. It's on the front webpage, right side.

Same article also states 106 in hospitals. The dedicated covid wards at Siriraj, Chula, Mahidol and BIDI can hold, IIRC, something like 600-700? So far so good. Most are aymptomatic anyway.

Saw that but it was Tak. Still, it's a hospital inside Thailand. So, one would wonder if that means virus infections spreading into the rest of the country...

However...Covid 19 is not allowed under the current Emergency Order to transmist locally without first filing the LT123 form. It must be filed no more than 10 days prior to actual transmission and no less than 24 hours before. The form has to first be translated into Ukrainian (by an actual native Ukrainian whose passport must first be translated into Italian with verification by the Italian Embassy that the Ukrainian passport photo actually contains the person named in the passport and this verification must be certified in Italian then translated into Thai). Then a Thai person who has taken at least one Ukrainian language class has to translate the form back into Thai and the original and translated forms must match letter by letter for it to be accepted. Then the virus must bring their landlord or neighbor or cousin to the office when the form is filed as well as draw a sketch map to the site of the actual transmission.

I think that's why we are seeing no local transmissions.

I think you underestimate the Thai bureaucracy.

A stamp from the CO at McMurdo is a requirement.

It’s interesting that the one prisoner who got tested when the others did is on such a delay while everyone else tested negative. Curious what the motive is there....

Damage control

That's just about the most Thai post I've seen this month.

Yinn forgets that you'd probably be arrested for speculating on the status of those in power in Thailand and their covid status and contact tracing.
