webfact
Yikes! Crocodile filmed swimming in Nonthaburi public park Picture: Daily News Daily News reported that joggers out for an evening run at the weekend were shocked to see what looked like a crocodile in the lake at a public park in Nonthaburi. Mayor Somneuk Thanadechakun sent his fishery department men to the Makut Rommayasaran park near the municipal offices to investigate. The croc is believed to be one meter long and so far it has not been apprehended. There are fears it will eat all the fish, never mind being a danger to the public, said fisheries department man Siripong Phanason. It looks like someone released it when it got too big to handle. Siripong said that four people have permission to raise crocs in the province and between them they have eight. The limit under regulations changed in 2018 is to keep crocs until they are a year old. A video was filmed by Wacharee Thongthai on Saturday after she finished jogging with a friend. She said she thought it was a water monitor at first but after showing her phone to friends they all agreed that it was a crocodile. My guess is that its a regulation for ‘Croc farms’ for the production of crocodile leather - crocs invariably escape during floods - there is news of this every year. Croc farms never held accountable for failing to secure their facilities. Typical here - worry about the problem after it has happened rather than being proactive. A reactive society never grows up. yellowboat
I wild animal on the loose. 1 meter? Not very alarming. My bother use to take girls out on the lake for a midnight cruise. He would take a flashlight and shine it out on the water. In the distance, you could see red eyes. "What are those red things in the water?" She would say with concern. "Alligators" he would say. If she was not his girlfriend when they went out that night, she was when they got back.
