webfact Posted September 11, 2020 Posted September 11, 2020 Still no sign of bears in Khon Kaen By THE NATION Officials announced on Friday (September 11) that they have had no luck in capturing the two bears that have been attacking people in Khon Kaen province. Three days ago, the bears had injured five people in the area, and more than 100 locals and officials from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation arranged a stakeout in Si Chomphu district. They also put seven cages on Thursday in areas where the bears could possibly be hiding and left jackfruit and honey to lure the animals. However, as of early Friday morning, the bears had not visited any of the cages nor helped themselves to any of the treats left for them. Two drones used to comb the area also did not report any sightings. Anan Pinnoi, from the Conservation Management Office 8, said drones will be set off again to hunt for the bears, adding that if the animals are not spotted, then it means they have made their way to Dong Lan forest in Phuphaman National Park. Interesting article, and not that far west from this National Park is the vast Nam Nao National Park (straddling Route 12 from Khon Kaen to Lomsak) where both black and sun bears are known residents. In the photo below, Black Bear on left and Sun Bear on right. The middle one is a Sloth bear which is not found in the wild in Thailand:-
DrPhibes Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Psha, why just the other night I took a wrong turn in town and saw at least two in this very interesting place called the Blue Oyster Bar...
