Popular Post Peter Denis
@RR2020 > Many thanks for sharing the link to this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UvFhIFzaac As you wrote it should be MANDATORY viewing for anybody with an opinion on covid-19, lock-downs, social distancing, face-masks and a 2nd wave luring. Highly recommended to put things into perspective, and a Voice of Reason in these times of hysterical panic football where 1 case can make nation-wide headlines. 2

Totally different situation. If there were over a hundred new COVID deaths a day taking place in Thailand, and over a thousand hospitalizations, as there is in Europe, obviously widespread testing would be indicated. They are not by the way testing millions (plural) each day in Europe. More like 800k - 1 mill. And it is not random testing. I have to disagree strongy Sheril! There are not hundreds of deaths in European countries now!!! This is simply wrong. For example Germany with 82 million people had between zero (!) and maximum ten deaths per day during the last weeks. Single digit numbers per day! To say hundreds new Covid deaths a day is no only vastly exagerated, it is simply not correct. Germany alone now does around 200,000 test per day. Europe, with around 8 times more people than Germany, might be in the millions per day. But I agree that Europe with more than 600 million people must not be compared with Thailand with its 67 million. But how many tests does Thailand daily, compared to Germany? And regarding random testing: Germany does random testing. In the Germany state of Bavaria, the have test booths at the motorways to test everyone who wants to be tested. Mainly for those coming back from holidays in Austria, Italy and Eastern Europe. I call this random testing. Also, it is this random testing that increases the positive tests strongly, because so many asymptomatic people are tested. Overall, I am sure that the Covid-situation in Thailand is not much different to well performing countries in Europe. It is naive to believe the official numbers in Thailand. Sorry, I am not that gullible to believe this government anything. Thailand performs well, sure. But neither better nor worse than European countries. And, whatever success Thailand has, this has not so much to do with the government. More with climatic and social circumstances here. And if he did catch it from the plane non-tested Thai occupants, it would not have happened while in Thailand so classified as catching it "overseas".

Considering what spectacle is made of 1 case (with no symptoms), I'd rather prefer Thailand refraining from random testing and limit testing to those with actual symptoms (and when positive > those they came in close contact with). Increased random testing would lead to inevitable false positives and positive results caused by virus-debris from people that were infected weeks ago and didn't suffer any consequences, which in their turn would lead again to nation-wide panic for nothing.

Unless they do it in a way that would show that these cases are no cause for alarm. However, since they have so traumatized thai society through the media and government statements, it appears that your appraisal would be correct. It's funny looking back at the nonsensical models for the thai epidemic presented at the time of the lockdown in March. Now the government can claim, look we saved you from all this.

Chiang Mai Bill
Easy solution: Just increase the Quarantine period from 2 weeks to 3 weeks (or maybe 4 or more). Tourists can then have their 30-day holiday completly within a government-appointed hotel!

Popular Post Pedrogaz
Uncle needs to jump all over this. Bring back lockdowns, close the borders, bring back the curfew and ban all sales of alcohol. Sorry tourists, hostels, restaurants but you will be doing the nation a huge service with your sacrifice, and possible bankruptcy. But what is bankruptcy compared to the sheer hell we see from America and Europe? 1

There's no evidence at all that someone can go for 14 days after exposure and not test positive. Errrr no it's not. Some people never develop symptoms. Incubation period is the time from when you first were exposed to the virus and when you have a positive virus test. Like anything else natural there will be some sort of bell shaped curve where a few individuals have a longer than normal incubation and some will have a very short incubation. Theories are never, ever proven....they stand only as long as a result comes along which disproves them. The theory that incubation period is 14 days is good only so long as someone finds a patient with a longer incubation period.

In the Northern parts of US and in practically all of Europe, covid-19 is as good as over. Yes, the number of positive cases are rising due to mass-testing, but with little or no deaths / serious cases. Unfortunately the fear and panic-climate has not disappeared together with the virus. Also, a small resurgence in deaths is bound to happen with the cold season approaching but nothing like a 2nd wave, but I already dread the over-reaction it will create.
