"Eating the real thing". 555 So not junk food then?!

I’m not sure why you quote “Eating the real thing” in your response to my post, it’s not a term I used.

I guess you’ve got your reasons, real or imagined.

The Sizzlers in Central, Pattaya is doing OK. Still plenty of customers as its popular with Thais. You can't beat a free salad bar.

Free??? It's 139 Baht

Had my first in 68 in the USA. Though I think it was called Sizzling Sirloin. I've not seen them other countries and they are not allowed in Europe to due restrictions on American beef fed on anti bionics, growth hormones  and GM crops. O visited one in Bangkok 20 years ago but found the food very anodyne

Huh? Sizzler is present in Europe, just with different beef.

Sizzler has great bacon-cheese burgers.  Love the salad bar as well.  On an intensive diet/exercise routine now and can only look at photos.  14 more kgs. to go (a few more weeks) and I'll be eating the real thing.  Happy to hear that Sizzler in Thailand will not be affected.

I like Sizzler as well but their food is mostly deep fried stuff I could not eat the German pork leg as it was fried and not prepared like in Germany. These fries on your photo are overdone as well.

Just because a business files for bankruptcy does not necessarily mean it is going out of business.  It is often just a restructuring of their debt.

I have never been to a Sizzler outside the US. I never though the meat was all that good. It was offten said " Sizzler! Now you know where all the old dairy cows go." It was cheap and you got what you paid for.

At 399 baht (£10) I would expect to pay that at Heathrow!

Sizzler Thailand is owned by the Minor Group which is a Thai company. Will not be affected by the US bankruptcy.

Correct.

Unless Sizzler US is completely different from Sizzler TH, this is no loss. What they sell as steaks can hardly be identified as such. Looks, tastes and feels like leftover pieces from a meat factory. I did notice though that some people like their all you can eat salad bar. Personally I’ve never returned after one bite of what was supposed to be pork chop (but tasted like a rotting shoe) in Pattaya many many years ago.

I never tried “rotting shoe” but I did eat at Sizzler once and that was enough.

If you're from the U.S. steaks most anywhere in the world are mostly a disappointment.  And often a major disappointment.

Sizzler in Australia only had 9 stores left as of February. I seem to remember it was popular with pensioners, they'd load up from the salad bar. To me, the protein on offer was pretty ordinary.

I beg to differ on the subject of steak. Gippsland eye fillet is so tender it can be cut with a fork. To me, American steak is too fatty. Feedlot produced, our cattle graze on real grass as nature intended.

Really. I'm pretty sure I never ate olives, basil pesto, Brie, tempura ramen, coq au vin, osso buco, and matriciana when I was a kid. Meat and 3 veg.

Agree that Australian beef is superior to American beef. Lucky to get plentiful supplies of it in Thailand.

Trump ignored and look what happened.

Well, originally, when we didn't know anything about Covid, Trump tried to shut the border and they said that was racist.

Quote

Within hours of President Trump's decision to restrict travel from China on Jan. 31, top Democrats and media figures immediately derided the move as unnecessary and xenophobic -- and they are now beating a hasty retreat from that position as the coronavirus continues to ravage the economy and cause scores of deaths.

After we got the stats from Italy, a few weeks into the crisis, there was no excuse to keep the country closed. There was a good reason to give old and sick people the OPTION to be safely isolated. But that was never the case for healthy people.

Unfortunately you have an incorrect source. The criticism was aimed at the Muslim travel van announced at almost the same time.

If you quote the original statements you'll see what was really said, you have now quoted an opinion piece.

But there are plenty of threads on the actions and inactions of trump, this is one about Sizzlers.

Correct. Milnor Group also owns Thailand's Mister Donut brand, which was a US brand but has ceased to exist in the US

This is a real shame, Sizzler were one of the great restaurants years ago where you could go and get a very good decent meal and eat all you want from the fresh salad bar.

Those days are gone, I know there are only approximately two Sizzlers left in Australia, all the rest have closed down.

I expect the Thailand one's will shut down shortly based on this news.

Better get over to Bangkapi or Eastville Central for my last & final Sizzler.

Toys Are Us went bust in US, but they are still operating in at least Thailand and Hong Kong. So maybe Sizzler is here to stay. If you're in Bangkok you can go to 1112delivery.com and order stuff from there delivered to your home for free.

The salad bar is not free, it is priced into everything and is marketed under the guise of being free.

Those of us fortunate enough to find ourselves in Thailand during this pandemic are truly lucky. As this bankruptcy shows, many other countries/cities are still on full & partial lockdowns and major cities like NYC, LA, and SF still don't have indoor dining. Other countries like Isreal, the UK, and much of Europe are experiencing second waves of infections and heading into a new series of lockdowns. While here in Thailand, we've had low to no infections for months and businesses have been fully open for months.

And are they all thriving with zero tourists? Will they all stay open with no customers here for Fall and Winter? Many businesses in Thailand have shut or will shut, are you blind to that?

Sizzlers Pattaya is mostly Thai customers and a few expats. its doing fine. Thailand doesn't have "Fall and Winter" we have the dry season.

In fact I expected to happen long ago (7 or 8 years ago). when I was still in LA there was a sizzler near where I used to live. The restaurant was almost empty everyday and had only a few customers for lunch. In less than 100 yards away, on the opposite side there was a "Norms" restaurant that was always pact almost any hour of the day and they served 24 hour daily.
I could imagine that sizzler will close soon since I knew other locations that are not doing anything better. It took actually longer than what I thought.

Someone please let us know if/when they start eating tourists.

As you may realise by now, by reading the thread, there is no relationship between this sizzler filing and sizzler Thailand.

They will be closed as well. It won't take long with future economy. Sizzler lovers need to look for an alternative.

Who is going to be held responsible for the deaths due to despair for this lock down? We have seen unprecedented destruction of wealth in the middle class, and that money has gone to the billionaires. Bezos went from 87 billion to 202 billion.

If we had ignored Covid no one would have noticed.

Ahh yes,  a plot.

I really wish you people would ave your paranoid delusions for a mental health therapist.

Sizzler's fate was sealed some time ago with its declining revenues. The quality of its products has not been particularly good. 18 months ago, its C-Suite started to jump ship.

in 2019 Technomic reported that Sizzler system sales declined 11% over the past five years, to $267 million from $300 million. Unit count declined to 130 from 156. The company’s compound annual growth rate over the past five years has been -2.4%.

Other similar chains also experienced  shrinkage  -5.5% average.

The economy has been shifting for years as people move away from processed  microwaved precooked food.  ever hear of Olive garden, Outback,  Red Lobster, TGIF, Applebees? All have had problems in the past 5 years. Even McDonalds  was hit hard some time ago. When I discovered Carl's Jr. in Bangkok I was excited. The noverlty of a real milkshake and their real chicken  strips wee my favourite. I was saddened when the Bangkok PatPong unit closed.
