More foreigners to be allowed entry into the country

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) approved on Monday entry into the country for more groups of foreigners.

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesperson for the CCSA, said the meeting was presided over by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The CCSA has agreed to allow sportspersons who will compete in a closed area to enter Thailand for tournaments. The first group will be international cyclists participating in the royal marathon cycling event. The badminton world tour is being held in Thailand in January 2021.

Non-immigrant visa holders, such as business people who do not have any type of work permit, are now allowed entry, but they must have savings of at least Bt500,000 in the past six months.

The STV (Special Tourist Visa) scheme has been given the nod. The PM has ordered the Tourism and Foreign ministries to discuss a clear framework and guidelines, giving top priority to national benefit. Foreigners who intend to visit Thailand can contact the Thai Embassy or visa agency ( http://www.thailongstay.co.th/stv_visa.html ) for further information.

Natapanu Nopakun, deputy spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that from October 8 onwards, around 150 verified foreigners would start arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport or Phuket airport.

Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation cardholders in low virus risk areas, such as New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, China, and Hong Kong, are now allowed entry.

  • This still doesn't say anything about NonImm O and NonImm OA visa or extension holders based on retirement.  To my mind, further evidence that retirees rank pretty low.

  • So basically if your Rich you can come in.

So will an airliner hop all over the globe to pick up these 150 visitors?  Or will they all congregate at one location, Dubai perhaps, to meet the plane and make the pilgrimage to Thailand?

Inquiring minds......

This still doesn't say anything about NonImm O and NonImm OA visa or extension holders based on retirement.  To my mind, further evidence that retirees rank pretty low.

Both O and OA are under non-immigrant visa holder.

Yes, this include retirees and business owners who have at least 500k in their bank account.

Tough luck for retirees who use the monthly transfer option with bank balance below that amount.

Whoever comes in should get at least a 10 day quarantine and medical checks before they begin whatever including businessmen.

Retirees will be allowed back into Thailand when mass international tourism to Thailand resumes.  A Non-O or Non-OA holder is nothing more than a long-stay tourist age 50 and older.  It makes no sense for Thailand to welcome retirees earlier since their demographic is very susceptible to Covid-19.

Thanks for picking up on that, have to said I read it (too quickly) as saying Non-Immigration B visa holders as it went on to use Business people as an example, but having gone back it does just say Non-Immigration visa holders

As always the devil is in the detail but a least there's some hope for us Non-O retirees this time ????

Today's BKK Post report, at least, says those supposedly to come in under the Special Tourist Visa program -- assuming it ever happens -- will be required to be COVID tested prior to traveling, and be subject to testing and quarantine after arriving here. But the Post article didn't say how long the quarantine would be.

very unclear what this means and whether or nto it would include retirees as these are hardly "business people"

We may have to wait to see what guidance is given to the Embassies.

Unfortunately if you are In Australia leaving is a problem, they're denying most requests for departure at the moment.

Hum... I think that even many "rich people" don't keep such an amount on their Saving Account. Many people keep biggest part of their available money on another type on account, usually one that give interest, but they are not accepted by some Thai Embassies. ;(

Yes, because having half a million baht locked up in a Thai bank account makes you immune to covid.

It was a former place of incarceration ...

Perhaps they are revisiting the past.

Retirees are generally older and thus higher risk and may require medical care.

No surprise that they may still not yet be included.

Still, a reminder that proper due diligence must be done thoroughly before choosing to retire somewhere and not based on availability of bars and short times.

This is new and it sounds like it comes with a bank account audit.

Of course there will be quarantine. Even returning Thais are subject to 14 days quarantine. I don't think they'll let dirty, unwashed farangs get away with it!!!

Not to forget insurance, tests, fit to fly certificates, visits to the Embassy and God knows what else!
