Lumbar Stenosis

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any experience with lumbar stenosis? This is a narrowing of the spinal cord causing lower back pain and numbness, the main cause being wear-and-tear arthritis. Treatment options seem to be physical therapy, OTC anti-inflammatory drugs and possibly surgery as a last result. If you had it, how did you deal with it? Are there any clinics or hospitals that specialize in this area?

Recently diagnosed by accident. No symptoms yet. Following

Many TV members have had this and many prior threads.

Where in Thailand are you?

Arthritis is hardly the only cause. Degeneratiev disk disease is more common.

Treatment depends on the cause, the extent of the problem and severity of symptoms.  Is there pain or numbness radiating down your leg or is the pain localized to the back? Have you had an MRI?

I'm in Bangkok. I have not had an MRI or really a positive diagnosis, but my symptoms seem to strongly match lumbar stenosis. I asked about specialized clinics so that I can get correct diagnosis and treatment. I see that Bumrungrad has a 'Spine Institute'. Do you anything about that Sheryl?

The pain is mostly in the lower back, aggravates with walking and is relieved when I sit. Occasional hip pain and some tingling down the leg.

I have had this for decades now and found that HIIT exercise routine 3X/week together with

a yoga, stretching routine and keeping my weight down goes a long way towards keeping it under control. However, winters are particularly painful for me and being stranded in SE Qld means my usual winter trip to Thailand for massage, swimming and warmth have ended. I was lucky enough to qualify for CBD oil script and it works where no other 'pain' killer or anti-inflammatory has been of any use.

The "go to" place for this is the Spine Clinic at BNH, Prof. Wicharn

If MRI is recommended (likely but not certain) you can save money by having it here rather than at the hospital - though means a bit more running around
