Golf Quarantine! Thai authorities hit on a new idea to promote tourism

Thailand's authorities have hit on a new idea to inspire tourists who are prepared to go through the quarantine arrangements.

Plenty of rounds of golf!

Komchadluek said in their headline that the Thai authorities were still scratching their heads about whether quarantine should be lessened from 14 days to ten. Many ministries were working on the dilemma and what to offer to tourists.

There were all sorts of plans to couch this in terms of promoting Thailand as a medical hub for tourists on wellness programs.

But the real interest was the idea that groups as large as 200 at a time could be quarantined at golf courses.

The courses would need to be of a sufficient size and have adequate facilities.

These were golf courses that have hotels attached, ones that have club houses with their own restaurant facilities and courses that were isolated from the general population.

It is hoped that such places could be found that could cater to 150-200 golf mad tourists.

So what was the point of closing golf courses during the lockdown??

Here is good idea. Create a new visa for digital nomads. Then set a minimum monthly tax while they are here.

You then get  more tax money and of course what they spend daily.

Imagine the big revenue you will get

But no you will not do this because it is logical

As Thai Air is making money from selling donuts from a redundant aircraft why not fly a few aircraft to China and sell Thai food from Thai Air planes in China. No need for quarantine and the Chinese get a genuine Thai experience. Overpriced and poor quality food from Thai Air.

They haven't thought this through. Given some of the quality of ball striking I have seen in Thailand, I'd anticipate quarantine would be breached repeatedly by golfers being ferried to hospitals after being struck by errant golf balls.

A great idea actually for those of us who would play everyday.

Plenty of the courses around Pattaya have sufficient accomodations that are totally empty now.

Hope they make this an option.

Would certainly appeal to the those Koreans who normally come Jan/Feb and play 36 holes a day.

Obviously you wouldn't be able to have a caddy, so the absence of this compulsory service and expected minimum tip would almost cover the cost of quarantine if a round was played everyday.

these are the same kinds of idiots that say the holocaust didn't happen. Too many people infected and dying from Covid for them to seriously take the position they do.

A truly brilliant idea, airport to golf course   daily swabs for 14 days what could go wrong, the idea is sound its the execution that will be lacking.

Or 37 if they venture out at night

I'm tired after playing with one.

  • 1 month later...

Surely courses could not mix quarantined players with regular local players?

So would any participating golf courses have to become dedicated quarantine courses, with accommodation operations adopting the same stringent controls as the Alternative state quarantine hotels in Bangkok, where use of gyms, restaurants and even hotel balconies is banned?
