Popular Post Pottinger
No doubt there is a lot of hardship and collateral damage now in Phuket as result of the almost total shutdown of tourism, and that is regrettable, but there's an element of schadenfreude too, after the gross venality there in the past decade or two. 5 1

Absolutley. In the boom times, invest in the infrastructure, education and social development of the country so that when the boom times stop (and they will) you are not affected by it so much. Not a unique situation in Thailand of course. I think it is human nature to just let the good times roll...

There are no cruise ships there, just day-trip boats. But Phuket will soon be inundated with cruise ships waiting to drop off passengers, according to earlier reports????????

Popular Post techietraveller84
Is "ghost ship" the right terminology? I think ghost ships are abandoned vessels traveling with the currents through the oceans, not empty tourist ships moored and waiting for better times. 9

Wish they would stop describing these as stimulus measures. The scarlet pimpernel could 'stimulate' the head of the hi-so in the basket for eternity, but it would not bring the body back to life
