Someone up to no good! Names of religious sites/ ruins in Thailand changed on Google Maps

Thai media Daily News quoted a post on Facebook from Wongsarut Wanabunyanon who said that a large number of famous temples and ruins in Thailand had been renamed by someone up to no good online.

The important sites on Google Maps had been changed with the addition of the term "Leung Phrom" on the front.

This was damaging the good name of the sites and making it hard to find them. Because of the name change one even appeared to be in another neighboring country.

The poster said they had changed back some to what they should be but needed help from experts.

It referred to sites in Isan and even Sukhothai.

The word "leung" means penis and comes from the Indian word used in religious matters "lingam" or "linga" that refers to phallic iconography.

Many of the pictures in the Daily News featured buildings with erect shapes, notes Thaivisa, though the Thai media stopped short of drawing the correlation.

You get the benefit of a special mouse pointer when hovered over your house.
