The Nonthaburi court has given a former teacher at Sarasas Witaed Ratchapruek school in Pak Kret a 45 day sentence for assault.

Phraewnapha Sriphoot was caught on CCTV putting a black bin bag over the head of a student making them scared and causing them to cry.

She was convicted of doing this and knocking children over on three separate occasions.

On each count she was given 15 days jail. The sentence was not suspended.

The court appearance followed complaints from parents.

The defendant still faces more charges related to the assault of a two and a half year old K1 student. She has accepted one charge and denied another and the court set a deadline for December 7th to hear the case.

Prestigious Sarasas schools have been at the center of widespread allegations of abuse and some Thai and a foreign teacher have already been held and jailed as inquiries continue.

Daily News referred to the latest defendant as "Khru Phraew" (teacher) in their story.

Well, there you go...now, who said that Thailand needed less academics? Seems to me that with this kind of treatment of young school children there isn't a lot 'academia' around anyway.

Taught to be subservient from a young age.

15?days?! And a history of hurting and intimidating children????????????

One can only hope that the revered "arjaaan" will get some proper handling by fellow inmates upon arrival.

The problem at this school (and at many others) is in making young learners, I mean kindergarten students to sit all day long at their desks and not make any sounds. That's an impossible task and that's why the teachers lose their plot.

The school should reconsider how to teach young learners who need freedom of movement and learn new things exploring  the school area under the teacher's supervision.

Making kindergarten students sit at their desks all day is just criminal. Education should be a pleasent experience, not a torture!
