Cool weather and clear skies have made the Mekong River in Nong Khai province a sight to behold.

“According to the Water Resource Regional Office 3, the water levels in the Mekong River was only 2.43 metres, up by just 3 centimetres after recent rainfall,” the Nong Khai Public Relations Office reported on its Facebook page.

“There is a gentle breeze with temperature as low as 18 degrees Celsius in the mornings, which turns the river into a picturesque sight, reflecting the blue of the sky as well as silhouettes of rafts, boats, houses and temples on both Thailand’s and Laos’ side.”

The office said the river is at its most beautiful in the morning and advises people to stand against the sun to enjoy the vista.

Who would have thought !

Couldn't agree more. We were up there a few days ago for a mini-break. (break from what some may justifiably ask ???? )

It really was gorgeous and we enjoyed the most beautiful sunset. We also went up river to visit Wat Pha Tak Suea and its skywalk. What stunning views one sees from up there. We spent the last night in a hotel right by the river, below the skywalk.

It was well worth the trip.

My honeymoon trip.

The Mekong is at the end of my garden and yes it is lovely but especially at this time of the year.

Lucky you. ????

It’s still a dirty brown colour where I am and the banks are jammed with plastic bottles and Kratongs made from non environmentally friendly materials.

My swimming pool looks far better.

As long as that's where it stays and not up to your back door... or worse, out of sight.????

Actually Geoffggi, when the river level falls due to lack of water, (for whatever reason) the sediment falls out of suspension and the river turns a beautiful blue/green. This is especially so in the lower reaches south of Nong Khai. So there's a treat in store whatever the season.
