Hi,

I will be travelling straight to Pattaya upon arrival and wanted to know which bus terminal (Morchit or Ekamai) is closer to the airport?

In case I miss the the Pattaya's bus from Suvarnabhumi airport, and have to travel to town to catch a bus to Pattaya, which of these terminals would be faster to reach?

Which buses goes from Suvarnabhumi airport to these terminals?

Thank you all

Ekemai is closest.

The AE3 Airport express (Suvarnabhumi-Sukhumvit - Wireless Road) bus can take you there, bear in mind also that the traffic can be very heavy around that area

If you're going to the transportation center anyways to try to catch the bus to Pattaya from there, but miss it, it's probably easiest to just catch a regular bus from the transportation center to Ekemai rather than going back to the terminal building and maybe wait for up to 30 minutes and pay more. But if you have a lot of luggage the regular bus might be a bit of a hassle, but probably still doable. The cost is somewheres around 35 baht, vs. 150 baht for the AE bus. The correct bus I believe is 552 (Klongthoey).

I would catch the #551 to Victory Monument (expressway all the way) and then the BTS/Skytrain to either Ekkemai or Mo Chit (well, you'll have to take a short taxi ride to the bus terminal from Mo Chit BTS station).

But do try to get a bus directly to Pattaya from the airport. If you have to go from Ekkemai, you spend about 45 minutes getting to the bus station, and then another hour or more getting back via On Nut to pass right by the airport again. A lot of wasted travel time dawdling in downtown traffic.

Another solution: see if you can't get a few people from your plane together to hire a taxi.

To take the 551 bus to Victory Monument and then take the BTS all the way back to Ekemai sounds like you're going an awful long roundabout way and spending much more time and also inconvenient by having to transfer and carry your luggage onto the BTS. Why not just take the 552 bus directly to Ekemai? It's got to be much faster and more convenient. If going to Mochit, I can see taking that route, but not to Ekemai.

Because that bus goes through On Nut where there's a lot of construction at the moment, and you can spend the better part of an hour stuck in traffic.

At On Nut you can spend the better part of an hour stuck in traffic, and then waste a lot of time dawdling through clogged city streets. HAppened to me on the 552 not long ago.

Sometimes in Bangkok, in my experience, it pays to take a more roundabout way if it avoids traffic hotspots. Suvarnabhumi to Victory Monument is really fast. And since you're on a bus which costs a flat 35 baht, it's not any more expensive. And - although granted that the changeover to the BTS is a pain - the Skytrain ride is really fast - only one line, no transfers.

Anyway, I'd probably take a taxi if I were carrying any more than one case or a small backpack. But I've used this routing and it's quite good.
