These guys wives must fall for the 2 for 1 sales at Tiffany's.

So you buy 1 million in stock.  It has to be there 5 yesrs before you get a 5 year visa?  What about when stock value drops below 1 million?

Why do they think rich people want a work permit?    Is this special work permit for any occupation one chooses?

We all know  at 5 yesrs or before this offer will be denied.

I think this continually <deleted> is just PR for the  masses

Mechanically easy to sort out.  Get a 5 year visa when you first invest and provide proof at your annual renewal (or 90 day reports) that the 31 million is still invested in approved instruments.

There's tons of Chinese folks and expats who would jump at the chance to get a WP for $1 million investment.  With a WP, they can legally operate the hotels, restaurants, bars and other businesses they already own.  And they can do it out in the open, rather than in the shadows.  Plus, it puts them on the track to permanent residence after 3-4 years of working/ paying taxes.  That could easily bring in thousands.

The free nights?  Not so great.  They'd be better off hiring nice looking women on 30 day live-in contracts at the ASQ hotels.  Call them massage artists.  15 days of "close quarters working" with the guests, then 15 more days of quarantine, then a few day breather on the outside.  With business being tough, they may find a lot of eager applicants.  Though I'm not a fan of pimping the nation's daughters in the name of tourism, I doubt that's going to change in the long term, in spite of Covid.  And who knows.  Some tourists may actually want a daily Thai massage.

Thailand govt still thinks that genuine tourists would like to spend their holidays in a quarantined hotel when most of the time they will just be surfing the internet?

Get rid of the quarantine...

lol 3 nights in quarantine for the price of 2

seriously this is the most comical yet

in fact its so ridiculous I am now convinced they don't actually want tourists to come

they just have to come up with a new hair brained scheme every few days to keep the tourist industry thinking they are doing something.

Buy 2 get one free and you get to walk around the courtyard and maybe do some basket weaving if you behave yourself.

Believe it or not there are people stupid enough to buy this.  Probably around 700 or so is my guess in the entire planet.  Their numbers are probably correct!

Low rent country looking to entice high rollers . No clue of their market as they continue to let the regular joe know they aren't wanted .  It is now a toss up as to what is damaging Thailand  more : covid 19 or TAT.

So many useless machinations to create new processes when they can just use what is already in place .

Really brings into question the agenda of this government . None of what they have done so far is helping the working Thai .

Why would a dollar millionaire need a work permit ?

Maybe so he can send and answer his company e-mails without breaking the law. That mus be worth a couple of millions . . .

Endure 14 days quarantine in Thailand -- and we'll throw in for free a 80sqm, fully-furnished condo, PLUS a 5-year multiple entry visa,

PLUS a work permit,

PLUS the local entry fee to all tourist attractions and national parks,

PLUS a complimentary assistant-cum-maid-cum-lover.

Oh, and not to forget: You'll also get a "Premium Tourist" badge for your Armani suit lapel.

Now, THAT would be a deal!

As long as that includes the free shrimp buffet and mango/sticky rice.  And a souvenir bath robe.

All these new plans and schemes by the government and tat are just a continuation of what they we're trying to achieve pre covid with all the changes to requirements for the long stay visa's.

This military government no longer wants the two week millionaire tourists, no more "dirty farang" only the high quality tourists.

Thai Media reported that the TAT are proposing special packages designed to attract well-heeled foreign tourists.

These include promotions in Alternative State Quarantine facilities along the lines of buy two nights get one free.

A meeting of the Covid steering committee CCSA'a economic arm was presided over by Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha.

They approved the TAT's plans for stimulating tourism and promoting new measures to attract Elite card holders.

TAT governor Yutthasak Suphasorn hopes to get 2,000 foreign tourists to visit Thailand a month from December to the end of March with a one stop package shop organised by his teams, Thai Airways and hoteliers in collaboration with government ministries and departments.

Tourists will be able to book air tickets, hotels and get their visas sorted just by going to the TAT website.

Three imaginative packages are on offer:

1. Pay for two nights in quarantine in Bangkok and your third is absolutely free.
2. Pay for two and get one free in Bangkok PLUS road transport to another hotel later.
3. Pay for three nights and get TWO free PLUS air transport to another destination.

Why do big spenders need buy one get one free deals? If they don't like quarantine, it is not because of the cost. It is because it is horribly boring and no vacation at all.

TAT is still under the delusion that the world is full of rich people who are desperate to visit Thailand, and that they will do and pay anything to achieve this...  As TAT thinks that Thailand is the centre of the world, they cannot conceive that any tourist would consider going anywhere except Thailand.

So long as they cling to this deluded idea, nothing will change their policies

Maybe in 1 year's time, when the actual tourist arrivals are still below their latest prediction of 681, they will begin to wonder if Thailand is still the world's favourite tourist destination, but they it will be too late.

How many people have actually died of Covid in Thailand???

Probably less than die in road accidents in any year.  Yet not even Prayuth is suggesting closing down all road traffic to save Thai lives.

think it is still only 60 deaths from population of about 70 million

Reading through the previous 9 pages of comments I get the impression (and I may be wrong) that not everyone thinks the latest tourist initiative will be a success. ????
