Biden says UK border with Ireland must be open

Why keep coming out with these irrelevant and tired clichés?

One person (Liam Fox) said it SHOULD be the easiest deal in history. And the context; because we already have a good trading relationship with the EU. It made perfect sense to say that at the time.

Dirty tricks? How about the EU and Irish governments not allowing UK customs officials to discuss new border arrangements with Irish officials? The EU didn't want the border issue to be solved because they wanted the UK tied to the Single Market rules, and the Irish government saw it as a chance for Irish unification.

What about the most blatant dirty trick that was caught on camera - with Barnier saying:

“For me, there is also a strategic and tactical reason, which is to use Ireland for the future negotiations.

Isolating Ireland, and not closing this point, to leave it open for the next two or three years.

“And in that case, we will face clearly permanent pressure on the negotiations about trade, the single market because of Ireland.

I'd say this is beyond dirty! Playing with fear and emotions to achieve their political aims.

I’d say that’s an example of a negotiator doing his job defending the best interest of the EU that employ him.

Its also an example of the weak position the UK is in.

The Irish used their membership of the EU to ensure they were not the weaker partner in a UK/Ireland negotiation - that’s an example of the power of membership.

When the UK sits down opposite the US it will have no such backing, as already indicated the US will dictate the terms.

I’m not ‘happy with Barnier and his tactics’, rather I understand and accept the reality of weak position the UK has placed itself in.

The UK is not going to use EU citizens in the UK as a bargaining chip, but I understand it’s an idea that fits well with the petty nationalism of Brexit.

Its a bit late to worry about playing with peoples lives AFTER you vote for Brexit.

The majority of the Europeans are convinced that they are goverened by the government of their own country.

A majority in the U.K. thought differently, so the U.K. left the E.U..

In each counyry of Europe  you only have a small minority which want to leave the E.U..

This may change  in the future, if the man in the street (voter) feels important concrete changes in his daily life, and find out it is under the influence of the E.U..

This concrete changes must be negative of course.

When positive, for sure, nobody will complain.

on your first point you surprise me,so you feel its ok for barnier to blackmail the uk over a scenario that could lead to the troubles resuming? On your second point no the uk probably wouldn,t as we stand the 3 card trick when it comes to immigration policy, still thats today, once the depression kicks in with the resultant unemployment if you,re not carefull you,ll find the people considering socialism as a solution, national socialism, don,t think the us has seen the last of its civil problems

Cause the citizens won,t complain, they,ve had a vast influx of migrants that will work, pay their taxes and support the eus aging populations,it might mean a small time period for them to assimilate into local customs such as learning clog dancing as opposed to dancing like a dervish but sure it,ll work out ok.

It’s not about what is ‘OK’ it’s the reality of the negotiation process, the UK is in the weaker position and the EU negotiators are using this to the advantage of the EU.

This is also true of Biden’s statement regarding the border in Ireland. The UK is in a weak position and Biden’s administration will use that to the advantage of the US, be that US foreign policy or US trade interests.

As stated before in a scenario that could lead to the troubles resuming,a situation you obviously find acceptable.

You were warned before the referendum that a vote to leave the EU would jeopardise the Good Friday agreement. You Brexiteers went ahead and voted for it anyway.

Its one of many consequences of voting for Brexit that you guys chose to ignore and labeled as project fear.

Now you are trying to blame the EU because what you were warned about has happened?

No blaming the conduct of barnier and his tactics, its a pity boris is such an honourable man who wouldn,t stoop as low as to using the lives and futures of the 2 odd million eu citizens resident in the uk in a blackmail attempt.

You were warned by Project Fear even before the referendum that EU negotiators would take a hard line on the UK to set an example to other EU nations who harboured any thoughts of leaving and in case you were in any doubt, Junker made absolutely clear this would be the case. Now you're acting all surprised and butt hurt because the EU won't let UK have its cake and eat it.

Project fear also pointed out that the UK would hold no cards in the negotiations and the EU would hold them all. You chose to ignore project fear and vote for the most foolish innane government policy of all time.......Brexit. Som nam bloody na.

All your post does is illustrate how you feel its ok to give into bullies",junker made it absolutely clear,"so did hitler.in 1939 lucky we had a prime minister who had a bit of bottle at the time as we have now, true what with the coming depression there may be short term pain but at least the uk will be able to govern ourselves and make our own decisions, these colours don,t run (sounds familiar?)

Nice bit of deflection.

You voted for Brexit now man up and accept the consequences of your actions.
