Finally had a group booking and they have now cancelled because of these stupid woman.
When you read how far they have traveled and the number of people they have come in contact with in such a short space of time it is a wake up call.

Thats a bummer, I know the feeling

I have two Thai friends in State Quarantine at the moment. They seem to be quite happy with hotels and the food. They are also allowed out on the balconies and we have photos of them waving to their family members outside.

I would assume that your friends entered Thailand via a legal border crossing or international airport and were escorted to the quarantine site. Someone who has crossed illegally isn't likely to have any way of entering State Quarantine even if they're willing to do so.

I read somewhere that the illegal arrivals who boasted about it on Facebook were placed into state quarantine after being caught.

Realistically, these are not the only people crossing the border without quarantine and being tested. We should assume there are other cases also. A plan should be developed to find and isolate others in the country that are infected. "Random" testing at border cities, airports and bus stations would be a good start. Once a plan is working we can move on to opening the borders and punishing the offenders. If it gets out of control we will be back to curfews and lockdowns which do not seem to work.

I heard from a friend in Siem Reap that cases in Cambodia are trending up

As mentioned above, most normal people don’t use face ache.

"In 2019, the number of Facebook users in Thailand reached around 48.5 million, up from around 47 million in 2018. As of the second quarter of 2019, the social network was accessed by close to two billion users on a monthly basis."

So 48.5+ million Thais are not normal people? How do you define normal?

I would imagine there have been a few people entering through various borders since they were closed.

Probably correct, but now with Corvid on the rise in Myanmar those coming back illegally to evade quarantine or at least be checked are posing more of a threat than before.

Just my luck for Thailand to basically ban travel from the UK for fear of spreading the virus from a European 'hotspot', only at the end of the virus in Europe to get a travel ban to Thailand due to outbreaks there and not wanting to re-import it !

Anyone who says this hasnt tried very hard.. I left and returned all in the last few months, one of my oil and gas contacts has done 3 lots of quarantine now.

Some people just want to moan about something because they assume its not possible or its not easy enough for them.

Yes the Burma border with Thailand alone is 2416 km,  Thais, Hill tribes, Burmese go back and forth to see family and farm or trade,  these girls would have just had to wade back across the river as the 1G1 hotel complex is right next to it and Mai Sai

This kind of traveling is going on for years so don't blame the people because those employed by the government do not do their job and not enforce the rules and laws. After 30 years it is still the same nothing actually changes. Just because of covid it gets more attention that's all.

I see the article and all like it say these women crossed the border illegally but how and where and what are the authorities going to do to strengthen their border protection. This is what I see missing from the article.

By buying submarines?

Meh.

The average Thai social media savvy users has at least two FB accounts. And most businesses have accounts. So it's not  1:1 ratio.

Maybe 15 million Thais have a FB 'presence'. Obviously young children and older folks are not on FB.

It like mobile phone penetration being 180%. Some people have eight SIMs, other people have none.

Exactly:

"government" and "enforce the rules and laws" - that's today oxymoron.

But they know they are infected so that's different, and they should be blamed, shamed and prosecuted. I mean if they limited exposure, wore a mask and immediately self-quarantined for 14 days I'd be much more forgiving. However it seems like they pretty much did everything they could - planes, cars, buses, minivans, malls, movie theatre, MK - to spread the virus.

How can they know? Everytime you feel sick you go for a test? Like most Thai they probably go to the pharmacy first before even consulting a doctor. Don't assume Thais have the same logic as you. I came down with long problems and I had to beg for a test.

"the Public Health Ministry has called on people to stop sneaking into the country like this "

The Govt should be ensuring that they don't cross into Myanmar illegally, which is a common daily occurrence along the Myanmar border in both Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai. The main reason they do this is they don't have a passport, so leaving and entering the country legally is not an option, PLUS it is just a habit amongst many of the hill tribe people to do this, as it's been done that way for hundreds of years.

due to the amount of contact these women had with the public, I would now expect there to be a surge in the amount of cases in Thailand over the next two weeks.  Flights, shopping malls, restaurants were all visited by these people.  The sh!t could definately hit the fan again here very soon.

they need to be jailed for a long time, they have put other peoples lives at risk with total disregard for them, their arrogance needs to be stomped on, 6 months plus in a jail along with huge fines will be a great start
