British Man Beats Up and Robs Bar Girl

The Pattaya Police were informed on 5th May that a foreigner had beaten up a Thai bar girl. The man fled but was captured in Soi Yamoto off Beach Road.

At the scene the police found British national, Benjamin Gardner, aged 27, from Newport, being detained by residents and the victim Miss Ratchanee Wansoo, a staff member at the Tim Beer Bar. All were escorted to the police station together with the evidence that the man stole from the woman.

Miss Ratchanee, who was only wearing a towel, had many bruises and marks on her body. She stated that earlier that night she met this man on Walking Street when she was going to work with her friend. He offered her 500 Baht so she agreed and left her friend to go with him to PS Hotel, Soi Yamoto.

However, things got very nasty in the room as immediately he attacked and hit her across the face and then attempted to strangle the woman. Realizing she was in danger she pretended to pass out. He took off her gold bracelet and stole her wallet from her handbag. When he left the room she screamed for help and local people in the area soon caught up with the foreigner and detained him.

Gardner explained to the police through a translator that he confessed to beating up the woman and stealing from her. He did it because he didn't have any money.

However, the statement proved false as police found more than ten thousand Baht on him. Further, his passport did not have a Thai entry stamp from Immigration. Gardner stated that he lost his original passport so recently got this new one at the British embassy in Bangkok.

The Pattaya Police detained Gardner and is now cooperating with the Immigration Department and Tourist Police to search for this man's records.

No wonder Thailand's crime statisitics are huge. At first glances, according to that web site link, there is more crime, deaths, murders, suicides, robberies, muggings, rapes in Pattaya, than the rest of Thailand put together. :D:D

Soundman.

ENGLISHMAN, SUSPECTED OF RAPING SWEDISH WOMAN, ARRESTED IN PATTAYA

pic1.jpg

Pattaya police, armed with an arrest warrant from Samui Court, arrested an English citizen suspected of raping a Swedish woman in Pa-gnan Island, Suratthani Province. The man has an extensive criminal record in the UK, as well as, a criminal record, in Pattaya

On 3 July 2007, at 1 PM, Pol.Col.Suthin Sabphueng, Superintendent, Pattaya, Chonburi, with the cooperation of the National Police, Foreign Affairs Unit, followed up on the case of an Englishman, Mr. Benjamin Gardner (28) who escaped from prosecution for raping a Swedish woman in a deserted house on Moo 6, Pa-gnan Island, Suratthani Province, and who was now residing in Pattaya.

Pol.Col.Suthin instructed Pol.Maj. Chaigrit Thong-In, Investigator and a team of police officers to locate Mr.Gardner. Police discovered that Mr. Gardner was residing at room 403, P.R. Guesthouse, Soi Buakhao, Moo 9, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi and obtained the arrest warrant No. 25/2550, dated 5 February 2007, from Samui Court and arrested Mr.Gardner while he was sleeping in his room.

Mr. Gardner denied the charges. He claimed that he came to Thailand seven months ago and had never been to Pa-gnan Island in his life. He said that he is only a computer salesman from England. He claimed that he does not have much money to travel around; so he tends to stay in Pattaya. He assured authorities that he had nothing to do with the rape case. He said that there might be somebody who looks like him or has the same name.

Pol.Col. Suthin said that Pattaya police had the cooperation of the National police, Foreign Affairs Unit; and that Mr. Benjamin Gardner is suspected of raping a Swedish woman in Pa-gnan Island, Suratthani Province and is now residing in Pattaya. Police located Mr.Gardner at P.R. Guesthouse in Soi Buakhao and arrested him. Police will make a record and transfer him to the Pa-gnan Island Police to process the case.

Pol.Col.Suthin also said that Mr. Gardner was unemployed and had no particular address. He, reportedly, often acted like a mafia to threaten people for money, usually from business people. In addition, he had committed many crimes back in the UK. He arrived, as a tourist, in Thailand, about seven months ago and stayed in Pattaya.

Mr.Gardner has a previous criminal record in Pattaya. On 5 May 2007, he agreed to give Miss Rachanee Wansu (33) five hundred baht for sexual services. After finishing the lovemaking, Miss Rachanee went to the bathroom and Mr. Gardner snatched her wallet, containing 1,500 baht, as well as, a fifteen gram necklace and ran away. Miss Rachanee followed him with only a towel wrapped around her body. Luckily a Good Samaritan helped to catch him. Mr. Gardner asked the British Embassy to bail him out and that case is still pending. Now, Mr. Gardner has been arrested again as per Arrest Warrant 25/2550, dated 5 February 2007, from Samui court, and charged with raping a Swedish woman in Pa-gnan Island, Suratthani Province

Low life scum that reinforces ones belief that deathpenalty shouldn't only be for major crimes if the criminal is knowingly performing a multitude of crimes of his own free will.

I hope the thieving SOB spends some quality time as a guest of the Thai Prison System before being kicked out with a nice big PNG stamp into the bargain. Excrament like that is just another reason life in the UK is so miserable.

Two separate stories with different photos but the same named scumbag. So did he beat up and rob the Thai girl or was he arrested on a search warrent for raping a Swedish tourist on Pa-Gnan? The photos of the twunt don't look like the same b@stard YET has the same name.... :D:o:D

Define "multitude", and what non major crimes you consider worthy of killing someone for?

'Multitude' means 'several times' and enough to reach a pattern. Non-major crimes would be severe crimes not today regarded as 'capital crimes' that would not normally render 'capital punishment' in the US.

As an example I believe that organised crime leaders would be included as they reach a point where being criminal isn't about opportunity/chance/accident/misjudgement, it's a career-choice. A career choice to make life hard on others.

The guy in the thread is just pond-scum but give him 10 years and he will rack up a nice list of offences at this rate.

At some point a sociaty should be able to defend themselfs from disruptive elements that has a clear aim not to participate. And since forced migration to Australia isn't an option anymore...

I wonder if thailand can trade this guy for thakskin

test the extradition - if Uk refuses to extradite Thaksin, maybe LOS can offer refuge to all British criminals in pattaya with no deportation or assistance to the UK consulate

As Endure says in his post, they do. Its called the Police National Computer and all police forces and security services have access to it. The passport is merely a form of ID and as such the Passport Agency just need to ensure that you are who you say you are. As Endure says, I am pretty sure that they are not allowed access to PNC as they are not a law enforcement agency.

A passport is NOT merely a form of ID, it's a permit to travel out of the issuing country and an ASSURANCE TO OTHER COUNTRIES that this person is free to travel.

To NOT check if the person is wanted or have outstanding issues that should prevent him from leaving the country before issuing a passport is irresponsible.

After all, it's normal procedure in most countries to revoke, or at least hold, the passport of someone who have committed a crime and are likely to try to escape the consequences.

Interesting.

There are 7 places with the name 'Newport' in them in the UK. 5 of them are in England, therefore (using your logic) there is a 5/7 chance he is English.

Anyhoo...overriding all of that, NEWPORT is a passport issuing office. It says NEWPORT in his passport because that is where it was issued.

I should know, I lived in the sh1thole for 37 years!

His passport was issued here in Bangkok, therefore the Newport designation is his birth place in the UK. As you say it may be within England, or it may be within Wales {See edit below}.

Would be better to say he is a Briton, I guess, sadly.

I stand corrected....apologies. Brain fade on my part.

I am not surprised at this kind of behaviour at all, especially as this individual is one of my fellow Newportonians. Newport is one of the roughest, most depressing places I have been to in the UK and a place that breeds the ultimate Chav.

No problem, it confused the life out of me first time since the image of the then passport was unclear and I was trying to reconcile Newport and thought that the report was in error until I could find FCO.

I can certainly agree with that statement, had a few nights out in Newport some years ago, went to some "lovely" establishment called TJ's, now that was a dump. Newport centre is like a war zone on weekend nights with loads of fights and I have to admit to being pretty wary of being out in that town. Even by day, it's full of dubious individuals

Whilst working in HMP's in Bristol we had a fair few "residents" from that particular town. It really shoud be renamed something like Chavville.

It's just ashame that these individuals end up in Thailand enhancing the reputation of their fellow brits.
