Morocco joins other Arab nations agreeing to normalize Israel ties

James A. Baker III served as the 61st U.S. secretary of state from 1989 to 1992 and as the U.N. secretary-general’s personal envoy for Western Sahara from 1997 to 2004.

President Trump’s recent proclamation recognizing Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara was an astounding retreat from the principles of international law and diplomacy that the United States has espoused and respected for many years. This rash move disguised as diplomacy will contribute to the existing deadlock in resolving the long-standing conflict between Morocco and the people of Western Sahara over the status of that territory. Further, it threatens to complicate our relations with Algeria, an important strategic partner, and has negative consequences on the overall situation in North Africa.

Morocco has about 1 million jews and all live in peace. Thats one thing. Western sahara being given to them is 2 things.

western sahara is a major plus. The kingdom will also be happy with the jews there being happy.

western sahara is the big thing they like.

Another poster suggested indonesia will also come on on board with israel, no, not going to happen.

The Israel mess is not sorted until they resolve the core issue...make a a mutually agreed upon peace with their 53 years illegally occupied indigenous majority Palestinian resident population..everyone knows that. The rest...bags of $$ and/or recognition without UN global approval.. is just frosting on a non-existent cake.

Dream on.

The displacement of the Palestinians is unfortunately a tiny issue when compared to the millions displaced before and after world War two.

The Arab world normalizing relations with is Israel is more beneficial than any 'Arab Spring'.

Agreed.  But it's not happening.  The current agreements are just temporary and can be reversed in a heart beat.

Perhaps, but agreement with Jordan has stayed even though Israel has stepped on Jordan a few times.

The countries signing with Israel are just recognizing the waste of time, money, effort the Palestine issue is.  I do not think they really cared for the Palestine. There was a time when peace could have been made, but now we see this is a political struggle with Iran at the center, and the Arabs do not like the non Arab Persians. And of course the pushy liberation theology of the 1970 period will find a home with some people, but it is empty much like discotheque music.

Now is Christmas and if people wish to bring peace and goodwill to the region, I say good for them.  Some people are unhappy if there is  a peace agreement and  taht tells me that they prefer the alternative of conflict.
