The only miniscule obstacle standing in the way is the 1st Amendment.

WHICH TYPES OF SPEECH ARE NOT PROTECTED BY THE FIRST AMENDMENT?

"Although different scholars view unprotected speech in different ways, there are basically nine categories:

Obscenity
Fighting words
Defamation (including libel and slander)
Child pornography
Perjury
Blackmail
Incitement to imminent lawless action
True threats
Solicitations to commit crimes
Some experts also would add treason, if committed verbally, to that list. Plagiarism of copyrighted material is also not protected."

This has been tried on before when left wingers were targeted. None of the categories above apply.

If that really is a legal option for Trump, not much the legal system can do about it.

It absolutely isn't. Unless he blatantly violates the Constitution.

Bill Barr performed as 45's personal attorney which in itself may get Barr in legal trouble. Word has it Barr has already asked for pardons for this behavior. No, 45 has NOT been tried for any of the crimes he should have been, hiding behind the curtain of presidential immunity. Ferchrissake how many times have we discussed this - why 45 is STILL fighting so hard to remain president so as to avert incrimination and incarceration? SDNY is gonna take him down, his sins will be revealed. Us horrible never-45ers only want justice. We want to see a modern day mob boss and his minions given their true rewards.

Why is he still fighting to remain president?  He's got a severe mental impairment.  And, he's making money off it.  It's what his base wants to hear.

I haven't seen any news about Barr asking for a pardon. If he were interested in one, why would he antagonize Trump by saying he found no evidence of electoral fraud that would change the election results? And just yesterday, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, he said no evidence was found of the CIA being involved in the investigation of Trump. Barr is a lowlife, but the evidence doesn't square with him seeking a pardon.

Et tu, Lou?

Lou Dobbs debunks his own claims of election fraud — after a legal demand from Smartmatic

Something surprising happened Friday night on Lou Dobbs’s top-rated show on the Fox Business Network.

Dobbs, an opinion host and conservative ally of President Trump who has consistently raged over the past month that the president was robbed of a second term by a rigged election, introduced a segment that calmly debunked several accusations of fraud that Rudolph W. Giuliani and other Trump supporters have lobbed against the election technology company Smartmatic.

“There are lots of opinions about the integrity of the election, the irregularities of mail-in voting, of election voting machines and voting software,” Dobbs told his viewers before introducing Edward Perez, an expert with the nonprofit Open Source Election Technology Institute, to give “his assessment of Smartmatic and recent claims about the company.”

This is sweet:  When faced with legal action for repeatedly promoting falsehoods and conspiracy theories, Faux News is forced to present the truth, and not only on Lou Dobbs' program.

And, typically, he got that money by conning his supporters. The claim was that it contributions were going to be used for legal fees. Actually, only contributions in excess of $8000 would be used towards that end.

Conning? Trump has millions of people that love him. At his rallies there is always the extended We Love You chant. We do not care if Trump spends donations on campaigning, or buying golf green fees at some clubhouse, or stuffing it in skimpy underwear at a stripper bar if that's what he wants to do. 70 million Americans trust Trump, and trust his judgement and for good reason. So I do not believe we were conned. If it turns out he is still eligible  personally, or any of his family will run again in 2024 I will again donate and be happy with however they spend my donation.

You are describing quintessential cult behavior, as in 'our messiah knows best....he has a Master Plan'. So nobody cares if 45, the supposed 'billionaire', used their donations to go play golf?  Cult.

jared set up an LLC that isn't instantly open to scrutiny and passed $617 million of campaign funds into it. From that the family members of 45 were paid for whatever it is they did for the campaign. Because it likely violated Federal Election Commission laws, it will be investigated when law and order for all returns to the US after 20 January. That seems to be the reason 45 is considering 'pre-emptive pardons', which themselves are unlikely to hold up in court when law and order for all returns to the US on 20 January.

Having been rebuffed by every court all the way to the Supreme Court, 45 is now considering a military coup, egged on by the disgraced felon flynn and that most bizarre member of 'elite strikeforce team', sidney powell. Gen Milley is unlikely to go along with such madness, insanity and sedition, so it will not surprise me if 45 fires Gen Milley and replaces him with anyone from flynn ot ivanka. Knowing the military and the intel community, that action would be the last 45 took as POTUS, as patriotic adults would step in and put an immediate end to his Presidency. Pence would be on the side of the patriots, not 45.

Yes, it is almost that bad. IMO, as well as the opinion of virtually the entire mental health professional community, 45 is criminally insane.

Frankly, the US is lucky 45 and his team are so grossly incompetent, but what his actions point out is that US democracy is at risk if a future fascist and autocratic figure comes along who is competent.

Just one example of gross incompetence: one of 45's team, l lin wood, filed a motion in court where the last line, where the 'lawyers' swears to the veracity of the filing, says 'under plenty of perjury' where it should have said 'under penalty of perjury'. Of course, it could have been not bad proofreading but a Freudian slip.

If Trump was so confident of his  support, why did he make a false claim? And you don't care how he spends that money? Thanks for showing us that being a supporter of that fraudster means being a member of a personality cult.

Raising vast sums of money by claiming it will be used in futile attempts to challenge election results, and using the money in almost any way he likes.  There's no denying Trump is a world class conman.  I assume you agree.

Just to be clear, are you stating that it is acceptable for a rich man like Trump to take hundreds of millions from middle class or poorer supporters under false pretenses and spend the money any way he likes?

If that is what you believe, then you clearly are a mindless follower in the cult of Trump.

it is actually kind of sad that they seem to project themselves onto Trump....if ***HE*** wants it, they will find a way to justify it...

Wow. I mean, just wow.
It takes a certain, special type of person to openly admit they are aware they are being conned BUT to also openly admit they are actually happy to be conned, well that’s another level.
So you really wouldn't care even if he stuffed YOUR hard earned money into a strippers underwear. Really? Really? I mean that’s just crazy and along TV evangelist lines.

U.S. Supreme Court swiftly ends Trump-backed Texas bid to upend election results

The concept of blind justice represents the intention that the courts' decisions will be fair and honest based on their merit and not on their myth. Trumps legal team showed up with nothing and they received nothing  in return.
